Associate Director of Communications | McDonough School of Business - Georgetown University
The Associate Director of Communications plays a key role in advancing the McDonough School of Business's communications strategy. This position is responsible for ensuring that faculty research, thought leadership, student experiences, and key programmatic priorities - particularly the Dean's Office initiatives, including Fields of the Future and Jesuit Business Initiatives - are effectively communicated to both internal audiences (faculty, staff, students, and alumni) and external stakeholders (business leaders, employers, prospective students, and influencers).
Working in close partnership with initiative, academic, and co-curricular program directors and the Dean's Office, the Associate Director develops and executes integrated communications strategies that align with the school's strategic goals. The role also serves as the media relations manager for the school. In collaboration with colleagues in Marketing and Communications, the Associate Director contributes to content creation that elevates the visibility and impact of the school's priorities.
Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
Strategic Communications: Effectively execute communications strategies around the Dean's Office initiatives, academic and co-curricular programs, and school priorities. Coordinates with external partners and speakers on press and other content as needed.
Media Relations: Execute the media relations process, including fielding requests, building lists, crafting pitches, onboarding media experts, and tracking media mentions. This position also serves as a primary liaison with the school's D.C.-based PR agency, Live Wire Strategic Communications, and Dubai agency, Brill Collective.
Editorial: Participate on a team that executes the school's editorial strategy, including brainstorming, writing, editing, and posting content for a variety of channels (newsroom, magazine, social media, newsletters, publications, etc.).
Work Interactions
The Associate Director of Communications reports directly to the Senior Director of Communications and Marketing and works closely with the parallel Associate Director of Communications, as well as the Dean's Office, and interacts regularly with university leadership, faculty, students, alumni, and external partners. This role collaborates across the Office of Marketing and Communications and the school's PR partners, Live Wire Strategic Communications and Brill Collective, as well as with stakeholders across Georgetown University and colleagues in central communications.
This role directly contributes to the University's mission by elevating the visibility of the school's strategic initiatives and positioning McDonough as a leading voice in its core areas of distinction.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field.
3-5 years of experience in media relations, public relations, or strategic communications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong editing and proofreading abilities.
Proven organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects at once, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to shifting deadlines.
Experience managing clientele and stakeholders, or agency experience.
Experience with website content management systems, such as WordPress, and email solutions like Mass Mailer, Marketing Cloud, or MailChimp.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with AP style preferred.
Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
Experience working in higher education, nonprofits, or research-intensive organizations.

Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$47,586.00 - $87,558.13
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
