Summary This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Notice of Result letters will not be sent to applicants who respond to this flyer. Responsibilities You will control and extinguish a fire during firefighting operations. You will inspect equipment (e.g., fire extinguisher, sprinkler systems, exits) to verify they are fully operational and meet regulatory requirements. You will decontaminate hazardous material response equipment and supplies (e.g., protective clothing, respiratory devices, chemical mitigation agents) for preventative maintenance. You will use personal protective equipment to comply with safety and health directives (e.g., OSHA). Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-03: Your resume must demonstrate at least six months of general work experience of military service that demonstrates your ability to follow directions and to read, understand, and retain a variety of instructions, regulations, and procedures and that otherwise demonstrates your ability to perform or learn to perform the duties of the position. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached a copy of your transcript or certifications, you will be rated ineligible. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education In lieu of general/specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: GS-3: Completed firefighter training that was obtained as part of a high school curriculum. or completed one year of related education or firefighter training. or a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. Your percentage of the required education plus your percentage of the required experience must equal one hundred percent. A transcript must be submitted with your application if qualifying using education. See Required Documents for additional information. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. Subject to mandatory overtime and recall. This position requires rotating shift work. This position requires exposure to high noise levels. The employee is required to report for duty during natural disasters and other emergency situations as directed by the Fire Chief. Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth. In accordance with NFPA 1582 and Office of Personnel Management (OPM) standards.
