Brief Job Description
This position comes with a tuition scholarship that will cover up to 9 credits of tuition per semester at the in-state rate.
The Graduate Assistant for Global Engagement will support Buffalo State's commitment of internationalization and student support services to our students.
Responsibilities will include:
Assist in the coordination of international student programming such as Cultural Café, Workshops and cultural events.
Execute assessment tool each semester, launch survey, follow up on completion and compile data for Director.
Participate in new international student orientation August 25-27 and January 21-22. Helping with check in, campus tour, answering student questions, attending all required sessions and eating with the new students to engage in relationship building.
Serve as a resource for incoming students who are assimilating to the Buffalo State University Community. Answering phone calls and emails while working office hours.
Assist with accepted student questions and participate in virtual presentations prior to student's arrival into the US.
Participate in some online professional development workshops to stay updated on current visa and immigration trends.
Work closely with GE professional staff and work-study students on various projects. This will include helping to supervise undergraduate students.
Work and assist the GE staff in other aspects of the program, as needed.
Be available to work occasional nights and the week before classes begin
Have an understanding of studying in another culture and strong organizational skills-attention to detail is extremely important in this position.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both oral and written), including an interest in developing writing and public speaking skills, has Interest in working with diverse populations and students where English may not be their first language.
Experience in supporting new international students with their transition to studying in the US.
Required Qualifications
Student must be enrolled and maintain full-time status in a Master's program at SUNY Buffalo State (minimum 6 credit hours per semester, 9 credits for international applicants) for the 2026-2027 academic year.
Preferred Qualifications
Computer proficiency (database management/word processing/Excel) and social media experience, Experience organizing and planning small engagement activities, Speaks more than one language.
