Position Summary
The BU Controller for Copeland's Industrial Business is responsible for overseeing all accounting activities for the Business Unit, ensuring accurate reporting, compliance, and cost control. This role reports to the Business Unit VP of Finance, and partners closely with operations leadership to drive profitability, optimize inventory management, and maintain strong internal controls.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Responsible to ensure consolidated Industrial financial statements are stated in accordance with US GAAP
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Review balance sheet reconciliations and ensure accuracy of all accounts
Monitor variances and provide actionable insights
Assist with transition of activities to the Company's Global Business Services organization
Cost and Operational Accounting
Maintain and update standard costs for materials, labor, and overhead
Conduct cost analysis for production processes and identify opportunities for efficiency
Support budgeting and forecasting processes
Partner with operations management to analyze production metrics and financial impact.
Provide financial leadership for capital projects and ROI analysis
Conduct annual physical inventory in conjunction with plant management
Internal Controls & Compliance
Responsible for ensuring controls are in place and functioning within the accounting function in a manner that protects the financial assets of the business, especially those around Percentage of Completion (POC) accounting for revenue recognition
Act as the financial steward for the Industrial business, ensuring compliance with corporate policies and industry standards
Manage field work of internal and external auditors and ensure timely completion of financial and other audits
Strategic Leadership
Partner with the site leadership team to deliver actionable insights and support strategic initiatives.
Manage a team of accounting professionals providing oversight and skill development opportunity.
Participate in department and company-wide projects with finance, IT and business contacts and provide other ad-hoc analysis as needed.
Work to seamlessly onboard the business unit into the company's Global Business Services strategic initiative
Engage with technical teams and other resources working on Oracle and process improvement initiatives to identify and implement process improvement opportunities
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or relevant degree plus 7-10 or more years of relevant general accounting experience, including supervisory/management experience.
Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and cost accounting theories and practices, including POC accounting.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel skills, including the use of linked spreadsheets, data downloads, complex formulas, and pivot tables.
Ability to meet strict deadlines and balance multiple priorities.
Demonstrated leadership, management, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work productively as a team and independently
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience with Oracle financial applications
Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Power Point) including advanced functions
Possess strong working knowledge of international Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (ie. IFRS).
Knowledge of Hyperion Financial Management software
Familiarity with data analytics tools (Sigma, Power BI, Power Query)
Advanced Excel Skills
CPA certification(s)
Prior public accounting experience
