Job Title: Building Automation Controls Technician
Job Description
This role focuses on installing, starting up, programming, and commissioning building automation systems for both new construction and retrofit projects. The Building Automation Controls Technician troubleshoots and resolves issues across customer control, mechanical, and electrical systems while working directly with clients to provide technical support and ensure high-performing building environments. The position requires a strong blend of hands-on field work, controls programming, and collaboration with engineering and energy professionals on high-profile projects in sectors such as sports, data centers, and hospitality.
Responsibilities
Install, start up, and commission new and retrofit building automation systems in accordance with project specifications and contractual requirements.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues involving building automation controls, mechanical systems, and electrical systems to restore and optimize system performance.
Program and commission programmable logic controllers and building automation platforms as required by the project scope.
Integrate automation systems with third-party equipment and ensure reliable communication and performance across all connected devices.
Interface directly with customer contacts, including systems engineers and directors of engineering, to address technical issues, discuss strategies, and provide ongoing support.
Complete assigned projects on time and within budget while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance with project documentation.
Read and interpret engineering drawings and control schematics to guide installation, programming, and troubleshooting activities.
Configure, operate, and support building automation platforms such as Tridium Niagara (AX and N4), Reliable Controls BACnet, Trane Summit/Tracer, Siemens, Automated Logic, Johnson Controls FX, and similar systems.
Apply knowledge of computer networks and automation/control network protocols when commissioning, diagnosing, and optimizing system communications.
Use software tools including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Visio to document work, update drawings, and support project delivery.
Support service activities in the field, including preventive maintenance, system upgrades, and performance tuning of existing building automation systems.
Collaborate with engineering and energy teams to implement efficient, reliable, and scalable building automation solutions for customers.
Adhere to safety, quality, and industry best practices while working on mechanical, electrical, and control systems in commercial buildings.
Travel to customer sites as needed to perform installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and client-facing service activities.
Essential Skills
5 or more years of experience installing, troubleshooting, and programming automation systems and integrating them with third-party equipment.
Trade certification in HVAC and/or Electrical Service, or equivalent experience in the controls and automation industry.
Experience programming one or more building automation platforms such as Tridium Niagara (AX and N4), Reliable Controls BACnet, Trane Summit/Tracer, Siemens, Automated Logic, or Johnson Controls FX.
3 or more years of experience working specifically with building automation systems.
Solid knowledge of computer networks and hands-on experience with automation and control network protocols.
Strong understanding of commercial building mechanical and electrical operations and controls concepts.
Working knowledge of electrical and electronics concepts associated with control systems.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and control schematics.
Exposure to and proficiency operating Tridium Niagara-based systems.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for documentation and reporting.
Hands-on experience with building automation systems, troubleshooting, field service, and HVAC-related controls.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer locations as required.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Boca Raton, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $50.00/hr.
