Summary
Michigan Technological University is a proud member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and NCAA Division II, seeks a qualified Assistant Women's Basketball Coach. The Assistant Women's Basketball Coach will assist the Head Women's Basketball Coach in overseeing the direction of the Varsity Women's Basketball program. This includes duties such as recruitment, practice/game preparation, practice/game implementation of coaching principles, fundraising, promotions, public and alumni relations, and other areas assigned by the Head Women's Basketball Coach. Must be able to make an immediate positive impact on the program.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
Assist the Head Women's Basketball Coach in the following areas:
Plan, organize, and administer the University's Women's Varsity Basketball program
Effectively lead, motivate, and inspire our Women's Basketball Student-Athletes: develop student- athletes athletically, academically, personally, and as leaders; foster accountability, sportsmanship, and a positive team culture
Coordinate the recruitment of women's basketball student-athletes on a national basis
Develop and implement women's basketball practice sessions to determine needs for individual and team improvement
Evaluate Michigan Tech and opposing team capabilities to determine game strategy and manage/prepare team for competition; determine strategy during games in consultation with Head Coach
Coordinate travel arrangements (lodging, meals, etc) for team travel
Enhance and promote the internal and external visibility and recognition of the University and team to a variety of alumni, campus, and off-campus groups
Actively organize and participate in fundraising and alumni activities
Provide necessary resources to monitor and promote the academic success of student-athletes
Act as social media liaison for the Women's Basketball Program
Represent and act on behalf of the University as directed by the Head Coach and/or VP for Athletics and Recreation
Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in the University continuous improvement initiatives.
Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience
Minimum of 4 years of experience playing and/or coaching basketball at the collegiate level
Desirable Education and/or Experience
Minimum of 2 years of experience coaching at an NCAA DII or DI institution
Recruiting experience, specifically in recognizing Michigan Tech profiles
Working knowledge of the GLIAC conference teams
Working knowledge/experience with video software to aid in film breakdown, specifically Synergy
