Summary You will serve as a MECHANICAL ENGINEER in the Manufacturing Engineering Division (C1420), in the Foundry Engineering and Machining & Assembly Engineering Braches (1420.1 & 1420.2) of the Naval Foundry and Propeller Center (NFPC) (C1400) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will provide engineering direction such as preparation, review, and approval of Technical Work Documents (TWDs) and administrative documents in support of propulsor manufacturing processes and procedures. You will execute and single-handedly direct pouring operations of the largest non-ferrous component(s) in American history and facilitate its readiness for next operation. You will maintain a close working relationship with production personnel and resolve technical problems identified during the PROJECT ABD production phase. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience performing detailed evaluations of new processes or innovative variations to existing processes for the purpose of improving operations. Experience providing technical guidance to junior grade engineers and technicians within and across the organization. Experience evaluating design objectives, performs complex technical evaluations, identifies most economical and efficient procedures considering all influences and prepares procedures, drawings, etc. for project execution. Experience in manufacturing engineering of propulsors and understanding of NFPC's equipment and capability limitations. Experience with increasing NFPC's development and increased manufacturing capabilities and processes. Experience providing stakeholders with schedule estimates for complex manufacturing operations. Experience coordinating with government and private contractors to ensure that all technical issues are addressed and that all project objectives and schedules are met. Experience observing research & development propulsor designs and ensuring that programs, plans, approaches, findings and decisions reflect the latest engineering concepts in the propulsor field. Experience in on-the-spot decision making and ownership of engineered executed actions.
