The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office is a full service agency that oversees the adult jail, provides patrol, criminal investigations, civil process and search and rescue operations. Special units include SWAT, Marine Patrol, ATV Patrol, Forest Patrol, along with five K9 teams. ABOUT THE JOB:
The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for On-Call Seasonal Deputies.
Seasonal Deputies areresponsible for enforcing State Marine and OHV/Traffic laws, promoting Boating and OHV safety education, and safety on the waterways and trail systems within Deschutes County. Duties include but are not limited to: patrolling lakes and trail systems within Deschutes County, conducting OSMB boat inspections and OHV safety examinations, issuing warning or citations for traffic and recreation violations, conducting investigations for under the influence of intoxicants and vehicle crashes, and answering marine and OHV related complaints and questions. May utilize snowmobiles to patrol and assist civilians. Performs other duties as required. Applicants are required to pass the Oregon State Marine Board (OSMB) academy.

Key Responsibilities:
Patrols waterways, trail systems, and Forest Service roads in assigned areas, in the enforcement and education of state and federal laws.
Intervene in disputes and maintain order. Respond to hazardous situations performed in stressful and dangerous environments.
Read, understand, and interpret laws, ordinances, regulations, policies and procedures.

Compensation
$36.6956 to $49.1532 per hour. There are no County benefits with these positions.
Minimum Qualifications
Current or expired Oregon DPSST certification required, or officers who are currently certified police officer from another jurisdiction. Please attach proof of out of state law enforcement certification prior to submitting your application.
Must have a minimum of 5 years' law enforcement experience within the past 10 years and attach proof of law enforcement certification prior to submitting your application.
Preferred Qualifications:
Oregon DPSST law enforcement certification.
Current Oregon State Marine Board (OSMB) Certified.
Necessary Special Requirements
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable driver's license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (NOTE: Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended.
A successful candidate will complete a full background investigation prior to receiving a conditional job offer. The psychological and medical evaluations will require completion after the conditional job offer.
Must pass a driving record review and criminal history background.
A current driver's license and the state of origin are required. Candidates who wish to be considered for this position must include an accurate driver's license number and state of originon their application under the Personal Information section. Failure to do so will disqualify you from the process.
Background Investigation.
A successful candidate will complete a full background investigationpriorto receiving a conditional job offer. The psychological and medical evaluations will require completion after the conditional job offer.
