Qnity - Laird RandF Performance Materials in Carlsbad designs and manufactures RF Absorbing Materials, Electrically Conductive Elastomers and Maxair vent panels for use in Commercial Electronics The primary markets served are Aerospace, Automotive and Defense related industries.
The Carlsbad, CA site is looking to fill a Principal Manufacturing Engineer role that provides site manufacturing support for day-to-day operations, support integration of Process Safety Management (PSM) and new equipment into the site, tool and equipment design support, and other process support to the factory.
This individual will function as a technical resource that will drive process safety and reliability using engineering principles and tools. This includes gathering and analyzing data, evaluating improvement opportunities, and implementing improvement projects.
This person must have the organizational capability to work in multiple production areas and processes and be able to communicate well with operators, peer engineers, suppliers, and leadership. They must be able to lead multiple efforts in various production areas.
Your Key Responsibilities:
Applies engineering principles and techniques to develop engineering solutions using a variety of tools.
Lead the development, implementation, and optimization of manufacturing processes to ensure efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and validate process improvements, ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Utilize Six Sigma methodologies and tools to analyze processes, identify areas for improvement, and drive continuous process enhancements.
Develop and maintain standardized work procedures, process documentation, and guidelines to ensure consistency and quality in manufacturing operations.
Performs CAD modeling (using software such as Solid works) of mechanical and/or electromechanical assemblies to support the release of new designs and create improvements to existing designs.
Assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering tasks, build a resource plan for completion of these tasks, and track progress.
Provide technical expertise and guidance to resolve complex manufacturing issues, troubleshoot problems, and optimize production throughput.
Have knowledge of DFA/DFM to support product development teams.
Identify, coordinate and/or participate in appropriate Changes of Design/Management of Change or Capital Projects to improve reliability.
Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to optimize processes, drive quality improvements, and ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
Receives minimal supervision and guidance related to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters.
Lead and mentor a team of manufacturing engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Drive initiatives to enhance operational excellence, reduce waste, and increase overall productivity within the manufacturing environment.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university or an equivalent experience of 12+ years in an Engineering environment.
Process and continuous improvement experience are highly desirable (Six Sigma Green or Black belt is desirable).
Knowledge of GD&T and metrology methodologies and equipment.
Experience working on an Aerospace component manufacturing site with quality management systems compliant with ISO9001:2015 International Standard and AS9100 Aerospace Standards.
Knowledge of materials science and manufacturing of elastomers
Proven track record of successfully implementing process improvement initiatives and driving tangible results in a manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, standard work methodologies, and quality management systems.
Expertise in composite structures manufacturing.
Proven experience in Project Management leading projects from concept to completion.
Must be self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Interpersonal, people development, and training skills.
This is an ITAR facility, active/inactive secret clearance or have the ability to obtain a clearance is desirable.
