Responsibilities Serves as a lead Maintenance Mechanic responsible for overseeing and performing the installation, maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance of facility mechanical and electrical systems in support of MCCS operations. Upon selection, the incumbent will be sent to basic HVAC training to obtain entry-level HVAC certification. In this role, the incumbent will support the division by working closely with Base Facility Service Contracting (FSC) and Facilities Maintenance Division (FMD) HVAC shops to identify system deficiencies and perform minor repairs on HVAC systems not covered under warranty. The incumbent is responsible for general preventative maintenance of MCCS HVAC systems, including filter cleaning and replacement, system monitoring, and basic troubleshooting to ensure operational reliability and longevity of equipment. Performs skilled journeyman-level work installing, adjusting, repairing, and maintaining a variety of electrical systems, controls, fixtures, and related equipment. Utilizes appropriate test equipment to locate and diagnose problems, and completes electrical repairs involving testing, troubleshooting, removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, soldering, and insulating. Leads and provides technical guidance to lower-level employees, assigns work, instructs on proper methods and safety practices, and inspects completed work for quality and compliance. Works under direction of supervisor who establishes daily work assignments and who provides general instructions either orally or in writing. Incumbent is responsible for analyzing and correcting problems independently. Work is subject to spot checks by supervisor for conformance with standards, timeliness, and adherence to established operating procedures The work involves prolonged standing, bending, stooping, physical exertion, kneeling and other uncomfortable and tiring positions. Frequently is required to work on parts of equipment that are located in hard to reach places. Regularly lifts, moves, and carries light to heavy weight objects. Handles a variety of tools, materials and equipment. Climbs ladders and may perform work from scaffolds or high places. Work involves frequent lifting or moving of objects weighing up to 30 lbs, constant standing and walking; and occasional lifting of over 50 lbs. Performs other related duties as assigned. Must have extensive knowledge of the operation, and installation of a variety of complete electrical systems and equipment. Must have the ability to perform standard and non-standard industrial applications. Must possess knowledge of shop mathematics and formulas common to the trade. Must have the ability to interpret and apply plan specifications, blueprints, sketches, schematics, and wiring diagrams. Must have knowledge of the National Electrical Code. An annual physical and a California driver¿s license if required. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment typically used for this trade. Must have knowledge of the various gauges, sizes and @types of wire, conduit, couplings, fittings, relays, boxes and other electrical devises typical to the trade.
