Cornell Cooperative Extension of Wyoming County has an opening for a full-time 4-H Youth Development Ag In the Classroom Educator working from the Warsaw NY office.
The Educator will serve as a member of the 4-H Youth Development team to assist with planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of Agriculture in the Classroom educational programs and activities. These programs and activities may include Dairy in the Classroom, Farm to School, Central School District Agriculture in the Classroom, and Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics (STEAM) programming. The Educator will be responsible for promoting program objectives, coordinating educational plans, and implementing related learning sessions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - Master's degree with experience relevant to the role of the position. Bachelor's degree plus 4 years transferrable, relevant, evidence-based research experience may substitute.- Experience teaching children in a K-12, informal education, or camp setting.- Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.- Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.- Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in English.- Experience with windows-based software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, and Excel.- Ability to relate effectively to co-workers, advisors, other educators, community, and professional leaders.- Ability to communicate effectively, clearly, timely, and tactfully through verbal, written and electronic methods. - Ability and willingness to work with a high degree of integrity, accuracy, organization, sound professional judgment, and the ability to handle confidential, sensitive information.- Demonstrated ability to coordinate in-classroom work schedules with fellow Central School District educators, co-coordinate advisory group, and effectively prioritize multiple tasks, deadlines, and program requirements. - Ability to align educational programming with the needs of collaborators and grant objectives. - Ability to present effective and relevant educational lessons to target audiences in group settings.- Ability to effectively participate in professional team efforts.- Ability to work in a typical office environment which may include lifting, moving, and/or transporting office supplies, work related materials, and equipment with or without accommodation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Program Development - 15%- Assist Supervisor and Executive Director with development of 4-H Youth Development educational programs STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math), Farm to School, and Agriculture in the Classroom School Programming to meet identified needs and diverse interests of school-age youth.- Assist Supervisor and Executive Director in creation of program materials and engagement of advisory committees to address identified needs.- Assist Supervisor in structuring programs to meet the needs of identified program participants.
Program Delivery - 60%- Deliver high quality Agriculture in the Classroom educational programs and afterschool programs that address local, regional, and statewide priorities.- Provide educational programs to students in traditional classroom settings at local public and private schools as well as in non-traditional settings, such as home-school groups and summer recreation programs.- Assist in delivering innovative/creative educational programs to impact audiences through a variety of delivery methods, with support from supervisor.- Utilize a variety of educational methods which may include direct teaching, group experiences, media, newsletters, electronic technology, internet, and distance learning to deliver programs.- Occasionally apply existing subject matter knowledge (agriculture, food, farm, and STEAM) and utilize existing research-based curriculum to create lessons plans to deliver educational programs. - Serve as agriculture, farm to school, and STEAM subject matter resource utilizing existing subject matter resources and materials.- Provide educational program efforts via mass media including contributing articles to 4-H newsletter, utilizing emails, phone messages, and social media postings. - Interact with program participants representing CCE in a professional manner at all times.- Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant Universities in a professional manner as part of program delivery.
Program Evaluation - 5%- Assist with the design and implementation of program evaluation.- Interact with program participants, schools, association staff, program committees, and other key stakeholders as identified to collect evaluation data. - Assist in analyzing collected program evaluation data for reporting and program improvement purposes using standard, established policy, procedure, and methods.- Communicate evaluation results and findings to Program Manager and Executive Director. - Assist in recommending program changes to strengthen and improve programs.
Administrative Direction - 5%- Assist with planning the delivery of established educational program goals.- Assist with identifying program, activity, and resource needs necessary to implement initiatives and projects.
Administrative Management - 5%- Assist with ensuring volunteer direction and management procedures are followed according to established policies and procedures by providing guidance, leadership and resources for volunteers and volunteer leaders including recruitment, screening, orientation, training, evaluation, and management. - Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise in the operation of programming, utilizing appropriate policies and procedures and with guidance of supervisor as needed. - Assist in identifying and recommending program needs (i.e., program supplies and materials).- Assist with identifying ways to reduce costs and maximize existing resources within the Association.
Administrative Coordination/Operation - 5%- Coordinate identified administrative tasks to support the delivery of established educational program goals, i.e., confirming events; gathering materials and resources for program delivery; and ensuring delivery to offsite program locations. - Maintain records of class participants, complete reports, and accurately collect and prepare paperwork as required.- Document schedule of classroom visits and coordination meetings associated with contracts and grants, report to Supervisor and/or Executive Director, as required. - Assist in utilizing effective marketing strategies in the promotion of programming efforts to include, but not limited to: print media, news media, social media, and multi-media efforts.- Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations, and businesses to facilitate continued programming efforts. - Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures. - Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected, accessed, and/or maintained.- Provide data and information to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others as requested.- Transport self, program participants, volunteers, and/or program materials/resources as necessary as part of performing position responsibilities.
Professional Improvement - 5%- In cooperation with the Supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.- Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and events as scheduled/required.
Health and Safety - Applies to all duties and functions- Support the association to maintain a safe working environment.- Be familiar and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.- Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
