The State of Minnesota is committed to equity and inclusion, and invests in employees by providing benefits, support resources, and training and development opportunities.
The Metro Safety Administrator plays a key role in advancing a districtwide Safety and Health Management System (SHMS) that emphasizes leadership commitment, worker participation, continuous improvement, and integration of safety into daily operations.
This position provides technical expertise and field-level support to employees, supervisors, and managers to identify and control hazards, promote safe work practices, and ensure compliance with OHSA, MPCA, MnDOT, and other applicable regulations. Duties include conducting inspections, training, incident investigations, and hazard assessments across a variety of worksites - including truck stations, construction zones, and support facilities.
This role requires both office and field work (approximately 50/50) and involves regular travel throughout the Metro District. The incumbent operates with a high degree of independence and collaborates across all levels of the organization to prevent injuries, vehicle incidents, and environmental harm.
This position will be based out of a Metro District truck station or office. The location will be determined at the time the position is filled. There is flexibility to work onsite or a hybrid schedule. If working a hybrid schedule, the incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor.

Option 2: Five (5) years of related professional-level work experience in the field of occupational health and safety (without a degree).
Work experience must include:
Applying federal and state occupational safety and health regulations (e.g., OHSA, MPCA, MnDOT) in an operational setting
Conducting field-based safety evaluations, inspections, or hazard assessments
Identifying and implementing solutions to control safety or environmental hazards
Developing or delivering safety training, briefings, or communications
Collaborating across diverse stakeholders to achieve safety, compliance, or operational outcomes in field-based or compliance-driven setting
Applicants must also possess a valid Class D Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, environmental health and safety, or a closely related field
Credential(s) such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or other nationally recognized safety and health certifications
Experience supporting or implementing Safety and Health Management Systems (SHMS), including principles from ISO 45001, ANSI Z10, or OSHA's recommended practices
Experience leading or contributing to safety initiatives in field-based, operational, or multi-site environments
Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey safety concepts to a variety of audiences
Physical Requirements
This position involves both office and field-based responsibilities, with regular travel throughout the Metro District. Field conditions may include working outdoors in hot or cold weather, exposure to traffic zones and uneven or sloped terrain, and occasional interaction with machinery or testing equipment. The incumbent must be able to lift up to 40 pounds, use standard safety equipment (PPE), and perform common physical movements such as standing, walking, bending, kneeling, or reaching as part of routine fieldwork.
