Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS:
A valid New York State teaching certificate in:
Mathematics (Grades 7-12) and Mathematics (Grades 5-9) or Mathematics 5-6 Extension or Childhood Education (Grades 1-6) or any combination of certifications that will allow the candidate to be the primary teacher of Math in grades 5-9.
Demonstrated successful classroom experience at the middle school level with a focus on student achievement in mathematics.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with administrators, teachers, and support staff to enhance student learning outcomes.
Strong ability to motivate and instruct students in developing problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and mathematical reasoning.
Possess a deep belief that all students are capable of excelling in mathematics when provided with the appropriate support, encouragement, and challenges.
Proven ability to assess student progress and adjust instruction to meet individual needs, ensuring all students receive the appropriate level of challenge and support.
Demonstrated commitment to going above and beyond in all aspects of job performance, including contributing positively to the overall school community and fostering a collaborative learning environment.
Extensive training and experience in implementing best practices for teaching mathematics, including differentiated instruction and formative assessment strategies.
In-depth knowledge and practical experience in applying the "concrete, pictorial, abstract" learning progression, as well as utilizing manipulatives and other mathematical tools to support conceptual understanding.
Ability to create and implement engaging, hands-on learning experiences that accommodate diverse learning styles and promote mathematical fluency.
Commitment to continuous professional development, staying current with new research, teaching strategies, and emerging educational technologies.
ESSENTIAL CORE CHARACTERISTICS:
In-depth understanding of elementary mathematics and proficiency in implementing the New York State Learning Standards for Mathematics.
Thorough knowledge of the Thoughtful Classroom Teacher Effectiveness Framework or other State-approved teacher evaluation rubrics, as well as research-based instructional practices and district curriculum across grade levels.
Commitment to continuous professional growth, with evidence of being a lifelong learner.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders to foster a positive and supportive educational community.
Expertise in facilitating adult learning, creative problem-solving, decision-making, and fostering a positive learning environment for both students and staff.
Exceptional classroom management skills, with a proven ability to engage students and maintain a productive learning environment.
Strong written and oral communication skills, effectively conveying ideas to diverse audiences.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborates with district and building leaders, and staff to achieve academic goals and initiatives, ensuring the effective implementation of district-wide math programs and intervention structures.
Collaborates closely with the Director of Mathematics and participates in regular meetings.
Designs, leads, and facilitates professional development opportunities to enhance instructional practices, including math intervention and assessment strategies.
Analyzes student data to monitor progress, identify trends, and inform instructional decisions to improve student outcomes.
Develops and implements math intervention strategies and provide targeted support, including Academic Intervention Services (AIS), to meet individual student needs.
Mentors and supports teachers in the use of data and best practices for teaching mathematics, fostering an engaging and research-based instructional environment.
Assesses students using a variety of measures to determine eligibility for AIS and guide instruction, while providing additional time for focused math instruction.
Leads regular department meetings to discuss curriculum alignment, instructional strategies, and student progress, fostering a collaborative environment for continuous improvement.
Maintains accurate records in compliance with district policies and program requirements.
Communicates effectively with administrators, parents, students, and colleagues, ensuring consistent collaboration across buildings to improve student success.
Utilizes manipulatives and hands-on activities to enhance student understanding of math content.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction or designee.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
SALARY: $ 44,840-$53,700 (Per WTA Contract)
