Position Duties: Conduct mechanical development engineering activities required to develop competitive products. Develop the structure of the mechanical system from the architecture and consider the measures from the risk analysis in the construction. Break down structures into subsystems and components and create a detailed product specification. Check whether existing subsystems and components can be reused. Develop alternative structures and select the one that is most suitable. Ensure double-sided traceability with the mechanical architecture and provide work results under a configuration management (material designation, versioning, storage location, etc.). Perform the calculations and analysis necessary to ensure a design meets both internal and customer expectations including Finite Element Analysis (FEA), tolerance stack-ups, Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE), design for manufacturability, and selection of special characteristics. Document results in an Analysis, Development, Validation, Plan, and Report (ADVP&R) which proves analytical design compliance. Responsible for the content of the technical drawings, documenting or presenting analysis results, Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and providing risk assessments of production parts that deviate from the specification. Participate as a project team member interfacing with Computer-Aided Design (CAD), FEA responsible persons as well as engineers in other departments including Development, Testing, Sales, Program Management and Production. Interact with customers and engineers from other Schaeffler facilities. Provide technical support for procurement and internal manufacturing. Provide support to bring up new products into proto@type and production. Conduct design for manufacturing reviews and incorporate feedback into designs. Evaluate product requirements for feasibility during RFI/RFQ project phases.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Applied Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field and one (1) year of experience in the position offered, as a Battery Mechanical Engineer, Product Development Engineer, or a related position. Must have one (1) year of experience with: Performing calculations and analysis to ensure product design meets internal and customer expectations including Finite Element Analysis (FEA), tolerance stack-ups, Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE), design for manufacturability, and selection of special characteristics; Technical drawings, documenting and presenting analysis results, Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and providing risk assessments of production parts that deviate from the specification; CAD Design including 3D modeling and 2D drawings; Applying design-for-manufacturing (DFM), design-for-assembly (DFA), and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles; Conducting Analysis, Development, Validation, Plan, and Report (ADVP&R); Performing statistical analysis, Design of Experiment (DOE) and Root Cause Analysis to evaluate design meet drawing specifications; and benchmarking current competitor design for optimizing internal current design to enhance functionality. Travel required to various and unanticipated Schaeffler locations and client sites throughout the U.S., 10% Telecommuting permitted two (2) days per week.
