Job Description
Mercury Systems is seeking the best and brightest engineering talent to help us deliver cutting-edge technology for mission-critical aerospace and defense applications, advancing innovation where it matters most.
In this role, our team is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer - Hardware/Board Design who will take ownership of complex digital board-level development for rugged, high-reliability embedded hardware used across Space, Air, Land, and Sea domains. You will lead the design and verification of advanced hardware including secure processing systems, FPGA-based signal-processing architectures, DRFM devices, display technologies, and electronics engineered for extreme environments. This role also provides technical leadership through mentoring junior engineers, guiding small projects, and influencing hardware architecture decisions. Working within Mercury's Integrator Mindset, you will collaborate across sites and disciplines to deliver board-level solutions that directly support national security.
Job Responsibilities:
Lead board-level design, development, and verification of complex digital circuits, modules, and systems from concept through production
Take ownership of sophisticated embedded digital hardware including compute modules, signal processing systems, secure storage, DRFM devices, and IO interface modules
Design with cutting-edge technology including 100G+ Ethernet, PCIe Gen 3/4, DDR4/5 SDRAM, fiber optics, HD-SDI, LVDS from Intel, Xilinx, Altera, NVIDIA, Broadcom, TI
Drive design quality through comprehensive analysis, peer reviews, and verification practices
Lead board bring-up, debug, test, and verification activities while collaborating with CAD/SI teams
Work closely with manufacturing to improve board manufacturability (DFM/DFA/DFT) and resolve build issues
Provide mentorship and guidance to junior hardware engineers (EE I-II) and lead small projects
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
Typically requires a minimum of 4 years of electrical engineering product development experience in board-level hardware design from concept to production
Experience architecting and designing complex embedded digital hardware from concept to completion
Proficiency with high-speed digital interfaces such as FPGAs, PCIe, SATA, I2C, ARINC-429, Ethernet, and HD-SDI
Strong understanding of high-speed digital signal-integrity principles for board-level design
Experience developing detailed design specifications, test plans, verification strategies, and design documentation
Experience leading engineering tasks or small projects and mentoring junior engineers in a collaborative environment

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience designing with Intel (Xilinx) or AMD (Altera) FPGAs, particularly Agilex or Versal families
Experience developing high-speed board interfaces such as 100G/200G Ethernet, PCIe Gen4/Gen5, or DDR4/DDR5 memory systems
Experience designing network-interface hardware using devices from Mellanox, Broadcom, Marvell, or Intel CPU architectures with BIOS firmware integration
Background working with 3U/6U VPX (VITA 46/65), COM Express, or SoM-based embedded architectures for defense/aerospace systems
Knowledge of military standards such as MIL-STD-704F, MIL-STD-1275, MIL-STD-461G, MIL-STD-1399, and DO-160G, with experience developing ruggedized electronics to these requirements
Experience with video processing, HD-SDI, display systems, secure computing, anti-tamper features, encryption technologies, or DRFM-based designs
Experience supporting space-application electronics or working with radiation-tolerant components
Proficiency using Cadence Allegro for CAD/SI layout, routing, and high-speed simulation
Experience with DFR, DFM, DFC, and DFT methodologies for high-reliability board design
Experience supporting power-supply design, power integrity, and EMI compliance including CE EMI and MIL-STD-461G
Familiarity with requirements-traceability or collaboration tools such as JAMA, DOORS, JIRA, or Confluence
