Summary The position is located in the Transportation unit, Facility Management Department of the Facility Support Directorate located in the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) in North Chicago Illinois. The James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center is larger than just a single facility, but rather a system of facilities throughout Northeastern Illinois which provide medical care and dental services to U.S. Military Veterans, Recruits, Active Duty and eligible beneficiaries. Responsibilities Major Duties: Serves as a Team Leader to twelve or more employees in accomplishing Transportation department duties. Team consists of Motor Vehicle Operators, Military personnel and a program assistant. Makes work assignments to individual team members on a daily basis. Ensures that needed plans, materials, supplies and equipment are available. Assures completion of assignments and compliance with supervisor's instruction on work sequences, procedures, methods and deadlines. Answers team members' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives and obtains needed information or decisions from the supervisor on problems that arise. Directly overseas the vehicle management program for 140 plus vehicles insuring all paperwork and reports are complete, accurate and turned in to the supervisor in a timely manner. Operates 2-way radio unit and/or car phones, maintaining communication between vehicle and supervisor. Must have ability to lead twelve or more employees to accomplish Transportation Department duties. Efficiently operate a vehicle equipped with either standard or automatic transmissions, power or standard or air brakes, clutches, gear lever shifts, and other equipment normally present on motorized vehicles. Loads equipment, supplies, materials, recyclables, waste materials, etc. in such a manner as to ensure weights are equally distributed to prevent load shifting. Ability to consistently follow safe work practices and procedures, particularly while lifting cargo. Will adhere to the established practices described in the Facility Management Service and Medical Center Safety Manuals. In addition, incumbent of this position shall wear a uniform and don protective gear as needed. Works under the supervision of the Transportation department supervisor who issues verbal and/or written instructions on work sequences, procedures, methods, and deadlines, and relies on the incumbent to assure that work assignments are carried out by members of the team. Supervisor is available to provide information on decisions regarding problems that may arise during performance of duties. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Must have muscular and visual coordination, rapid reflexes, and depth and field of vision must be within normal limits. Must be capable of lifting, carrying, and moving heavy loads weighing up to fifty pounds without assistance while employing correct lifting procedures. Hand trucks, dollies and other workers are available for assistance with lifting, carrying, and moving heavy loads weighing more than fifty pounds. Must also be able to stoop, climb, stand, walk, squat and kneel to accomplish assigned work tasks. Education There is no education requirement for this position. Additional Information Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
