CLASS SPECIFICATION
TRUCK DRIVER
The principal function of an employee in this class is to skillfully
operate a semi-tractor and trailer safely on public highways and to
ensure the safety of the general public. The Truck Driver primarily
operates a 3-axle truck and trailer but may be assigned other related
work in the department or maintenance. The work is performed under the
direct supervision of the Road & Bridge Supervisor with some latitude
for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative in completing
work assignments. The principal duties of this class are performed in an
outdoor environment and may include working in adverse weather
conditions and hazards involving the use of heavy equipment and power
tools and working in moving traffic areas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operates heavy equipment including, but not limited to public
highway tractors, trailers, loaders, trucks, backhoes, general
vehicles and maintenance equipment.
Operates a variety of hand tools and power tools, including but not
limited to, sledgehammers, picks, air compressors, welders,
chainsaws, air hammers, jacks, and related
Hauls road material to areas that need repair and operate snowplow
for snow removal in the winter.
To assist with loading and unloading procedures of tractor and
To assist with other duties related to the Road & Bridge operations
as
Performs basic preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment and
maintains communication with service depa1tment.
Adheres to policies and procedures relating to Road & Bridge
Department and to protect the safety, health, and welfare of the
public.
Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and
accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and
potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of
addressing such problems.
Interacts with County employees and the general public effectively

Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with County
policies, procedures and safety practices.

Classification Requirements
Knowledge of:
Methods, materials, procedures, and standard practices of truck
driving, inspections of tractor and trailer, snow removal, sanding,
de-icing, road sign placement, and
Equipment and tool operation and maintenance
Traffic control and flagging procedures and
Federal regulations and County policies regarding safe work
practices relating to use of heavy equipment, power tools, and
trench and confined workplace safety.
Ability to:
Communicate effectively, both orally and in
Maintain effective working relationships with other County
employees, contractors, state and local elected officials and the
public.
Perform multiple tasks simultaneously, including handling
interruptions, and return to and complete tasks in a timely manner.

Minimum Acceptable Experience and Training
High School Diploma or GED and 2 years of tractor/trailer
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides
the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the essential
functions of the
Special Qualifications
Class A CDL with T (Tanker) endorsement - two years experience
Idaho driver\'s license
