Job Title: Mechanical EngineerJob Description
This role focuses on designing and developing mechanical packages for engineered-to-order cranes and related equipment. The Mechanical Engineer creates complete mechanical systems, including drive and hoisting systems, gears, motors, brakes, and couplings, with a strong emphasis on weldment design. The position requires close collaboration with application engineering, electrical engineering, and supply chain functions to transform technical calculations and bid outputs into fully detailed, manufacturable solutions that meet stringent industry codes and standards.
Responsibilities
Design and develop complete manufacturing mechanical packages for engineered-to-order cranes and equipment.
Detail mechanical drive systems, hoisting systems, gears, motors, brakes, and couplings to meet performance and safety requirements.
Create and refine weldment designs, ensuring structural integrity, manufacturability, and compliance with applicable codes.
Translate calculations and technical outputs from Application Engineers into detailed mechanical designs and complete design packages.
Review and verify order information to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with customer and project requirements.
Select and finalize mechanical components, including third-party electro-mechanical parts, based on design specifications and standards.
Work within ERP and SAP systems to manage bills of materials, component selections, and design-related data.
Ensure all third-party electro-mechanical components meet specified codes, standards, and project requirements.
Collaborate closely with electrical engineers and other mechanical engineers to integrate mechanical and electrical systems effectively.
Support multiple concurrent crane and equipment designs in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment, including nuclear and government-related projects.
Apply relevant industry codes and standards, such as CMAA and other applicable codes, throughout the design process.
Participate in design reviews and address feedback to improve product reliability, safety, and manufacturability.
Essential Skills
Minimum 3 years of Mechanical Engineering experience, with a focus on designing around weldments.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum 1 year of experience applying industry codes such as CMAA and related standards.
Proficiency in mechanical design of drive systems, hoisting systems, gears, motors, brakes, and couplings.
Strong understanding of weldment design principles, including structural behavior and fabrication considerations.
Ability to interpret and use calculations and technical data from Application Engineers to produce complete design packages.
Experience working with ERP systems and SAP to manage components, bills of materials, and design data.
Knowledge of electro-mechanical components and their integration into mechanical systems.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple design projects simultaneously.
Strong collaboration skills to work with both mechanical and electrical engineering teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience designing mechanical systems for cranes, lifting equipment, or similar heavy industrial machinery.
Familiarity with nuclear or government-regulated projects and the associated documentation and compliance requirements.
Strong attention to detail and a systematic approach to checking orders, components, and design documentation.
Ability to participate in cross-functional design reviews and incorporate feedback efficiently.
Comfort working on a dozen or more designs at a time in a dynamic engineering environment.
Work Environment
The Mechanical Engineer works on-site in a fast-paced engineering environment focused on engineered-to-order crane and equipment designs, including projects in nuclear and government-regulated sectors. The role involves close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team composed of both electrical and mechanical engineers. Daily work includes using ERP and SAP systems, engaging in multiple concurrent design projects, and working with complex electro-mechanical components and weldment-based structures. The environment emphasizes adherence to industry codes and standards, thorough documentation, and high levels of technical rigor.
