Job Description: The Waterways Regulation Program (Chapter 91) issues licenses for projects in tidal waters, filed tidelands, great ponds and navigable non-tidal rivers and streams. Our team issues licenses and permits for many @types of projects on the water (private docks, wharfs, piers, marinas, etc.), and for non water-dependent projects on filled land (mixed-use commercial, residential, transportation projects, etc.). The intern will assist the Program in identifying navigable non-tidal rivers and streams, and in the process learn about the Program's stewardship of trust lands and its efforts to protect and promote public access to waterways. Job Duties: Assist Waterways Team to identify navigable non-tidal rivers and streams, using digital (GIS) data and existing lists. Conduct site visits to verify the limits of selected navigable rivers and streams. Produce an inventory of non-tidal rivers and streams to be used in project reviews. Document the internship tasks, process and products, and present the internship experience to the MassDEP Intern Management Team. Preferred Qualifications Computer skills, including a working knowledge and experience with the Microsoft Office suite and virtual meeting platforms, such as Teams. Proficient in ArcGIS Pro. Familiar with GIS data and databases. Ability to communicate clearly in written and oral form. Work well independently and as a member of a team. This internship is unpaid and designed to support students or recent graduates seeking practical experience in the field. Interns may be eligible to earn academic credit through their college or university.
