Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.
Minimum of four (4) years of experience in accounting, finance, or a closely related field.
Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles ( GAAP ), relevant state and federal regulations, and best practices in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bookkeeping.
Proficiency with financial and accounting software, as well as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and database management tools.
Ability to interpret and analyze financial data and reports; prepare detailed correspondence, spreadsheets, and procedural documentation; and perform complex calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse departments and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
Experience with accounting, reconciliation processes, and/or financial management.
Familiarity with Raiser's Edge, Financial Edge, SAP , or comparable accounting systems.
Previous experience in a university, higher education, or nonprofit financial setting.
Knowledge of university financial policies, administrative procedures, and related compliance requirements.
Job Description
The Accountant I provides professional accounting support to the Texas State University Development Foundation by performing financial and bookkeeping functions. This role is responsible for accounting reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, and the accurate recording and tracking of financial transactions. The position also supports the effective management of financial data for the Development Foundation.
The Accountant I reports directly to the Managing Director of the Development Foundation.
Job Duties
Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations in a timely and accurate manner.
Develop, implement, and maintain reliable financial tracking systems, records, and reports, including monthly accounting and reconciliation statements.
Prepare, review, and analyze financial reports to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with applicable regulations and policies.
Process and create invoices, reconcile SAP accounts, and manage purchase orders (POs), IDTs, and e-NPOs.
Review, reconcile, and clean up financial fund data in Blackbaud Financial Edge to ensure data integrity.
Participate in Foundation board and committee meetings, including assisting with preparation of materials, documentation, and meeting facilitation.
Provide back-up support and assistance to the Managing Director of the Development Foundation as needed.
Provide occasional support for large-scale university and alumni events.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Additional Information to Applicants
This position holder must have the ability to leverage approved generative AI tools to draft, edit, and summarize routine communications, while exercising professional judgment and adhering to university privacy and data security policies.
This position may involve optional participation in evening or weekend events that support departmental outreach and campus engagement; staff are invited, but not required, to take part in these activities in coordination with their supervisor.
