Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team on a contract basis in Mitchellville, Maryland. In this role, you will oversee essential accounting tasks such as journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting while supporting the accuracy and integrity of financial data. This position offers an opportunity to collaborate with various departments and assist with audits, budgets, and process improvements.
Responsibilities:
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure financial data remains accurate and reliable.
Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments in adherence to deadlines.
Support month-end and year-end close processes, including the preparation of financial statements.
Perform account analyses and reconciliations, such as bank and intercompany account reconciliations.
Manage fixed asset records, including tracking construction in progress and maintaining depreciation schedules.
Assist with internal and external audits by preparing required documentation and schedules.
Collaborate with departments like Accounts Payable, Payroll, Purchasing, and Billing to ensure timely and precise data entry into the general ledger.
Coordinate with Accounts Payable and Billing teams for the distribution of monthly payments and statements.
Contribute to budget analysis and reconciliation efforts.
Provide financial support to departmental leaders and assist with special projects or process improvement initiatives. Requirements - Proficiency in preparing and posting journal entries with attention to accuracy.
Strong understanding of general ledger maintenance and reconciliation processes.
Experience with accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) functions.
Skilled in performing account reconciliations, including bank and intercompany accounts.
Familiarity with month-end close activities and financial statement preparation.
Ability to monitor and maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
Effective collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
Prior experience supporting audits and handling budget-related tasks.
