Job Description:
Metro State University, Minnesota's public, urban university, and four-time recipient of the Insight Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award is seeking to hire a TRIO Upward Bound Pre-College Advisor.
This is a full/fixed-term position within the TRIO Upward Bound Program/Dean of Students/Student Success Division. This position is federally funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
Salary Range:
This is a Minnesota State University Association of Administrative and Service Faculty (MSUAASF) Range B position with a salary range of $47,788 (minimum) to $78,458 (maximum). Salary is commensurate with education and experience and is determined by the collective bargaining agreement between Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (Minnesota State) and the MSUAASF organization.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in STEM or other field.
Demonstrated knowledge or experience in STEM or other workshops and education.
Minimum of 2 years of experience working directly with underrepresented youth populations and/or experience in student services, human services, and educational services in a school or community agency setting.
Demonstrated knowledge or experience in working with students of color, recent immigrants, first-generation college-bound students, and students coming from limited-income families.
Must possess strong communication skills (written & verbal).
Meet required criminal background checks to work within the school system.

Preferred Qualification:
Previous experience with TRIO programs or related federal programs.
Knowledge of experience using Student Access or relevant software applications for communication, record-keeping, and documenting program and student activities.
Ability to identify potential barriers and provide appropriate strategies that increase high school graduation and success in college.
Physical Requirements of the Job:
Very Light - Requires occasionally transporting such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves maintaining a stationary position for long periods of time, a certain amount of movement is often necessary in carrying out job duties.

The School/Academic Department: The TRIO Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math-Science programs are federally funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The programs are an equal opportunity educational program designed to generate the motivation of students to graduate from high school, enter college, and successfully complete a postsecondary degree. Metropolitan State University TRIO Upward Bound programs serve a total of 120 low/limited income and first-generation college-bound youth in grades 9-12 annually. All TRIO Upward Bound programming and activities are provided at no cost to the student.
TRIO serves high school students with parent(s)/guardian(s) who are both low income (150 percent of poverty level) and first-generation college student (neither parent has earned a 4-year college degree). The students must be currently enrolled in the participating high school and have academic potential and determination to attend a post-secondary institution after high school. TRIO Upward Bound Programs are an intensive year-round long-term program, and our students must be willing to attend events and participate fully in our activities. Our high school partners include Washington Technology Magnet, Hmong College Prep Academy, and STEP Academy.
