Summary This position is located in the Department of War (DOW) Office of the General Counsel, who is appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate. This position is the chief legal officer of the DOW and performs such functions as the Secretary of War may prescribe (10 U.S.C. 140). As such, the incumbent is the principal legal advisor to the Secretary of War on, and has final authority and responsibility for, legal policy and determination and delivery of legal services with DOW. Responsibilities Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Ability to manage critical, high-level domestic and international travel arrangements for General Counsel (GC), The Principal Deputy General Counsel (PDGC) Senior Military Assistant, and Military Assistant via the Defense Travel System (DTS). Responsible for maintaining the PDGC calendar based on knowledge of the office, exercise authority to manage access based on urgency and relevance of internal and external requests. Ability to handle priority assignments, studies, and projects personally assigned on a variety of sensitive and confidential matters of complex administrative areas. Fully responsible for Front Office, perform Time and Attendance duties. Complete analysis and research to identify controversial issues, develop briefing books, read-ahead packages containing pertinent information. You may qualify at the GS-12 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to: Display knowledge and skill in applying analytical, evaluative methods, and techniques concerning the effectiveness of program operations. Knowledge of Defense Travel System (DTS) to navigate authorizations, book reservations, and process vouchers. Ability to interpret agency-wide instructions and translate them into local front-office procedures. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
