Job Title: Mechanical Automation Design EngineerJob Description
Join an innovative and confidential advanced manufacturing organization as a Mechanical Engineer II, contributing to the design, development, and deployment of custom automated equipment and production systems. This role plays a crucial part in creating engineered solutions for highly regulated, safety-critical manufacturing environments. An ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical design fundamentals, practical engineering judgment, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines to deliver robust and manufacturable systems.
Responsibilities
Translate technical, functional, and manufacturing requirements into well-engineered mechanical automation designs.
Develop and modify 3D models and detailed drawings for automated assemblies and components using SolidWorks.
Perform tolerance analysis and evaluate close-clearance conditions to ensure proper fit, function, and reliability.
Apply sound engineering principles to ensure structural integrity, performance, and longevity of designs.
Collaborate with controls engineers, manufacturing, supply chain, and external suppliers to select and integrate electromechanical components.
Support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) initiatives.
Participate in integrated product team discussions throughout the product lifecycle.
Conduct engineering analyses (including FEA) to validate mechanical designs.
Support formal engineering change processes, including documentation, review, and release of design updates.
Participate in design and peer reviews to ensure compliance with requirements and design intent.
Create and maintain accurate technical documentation, including drawings, procedures, and mechanical sections of operations and maintenance materials.
Support internal build activities and provide on-site mechanical support during system installation and commissioning as required.
Contribute to ongoing improvements in engineering standards, tools, workflows, and best practices.
Assist in maintaining compliance with quality system requirements and internal engineering procedures.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 2+ years of relevant mechanical design experience or equivalent practical experience in mechanical system design.
Proficiency in SolidWorks, including experience with PDM or controlled CAD environments.
Working knowledge of GD&T in accordance with industry standards.
Experience performing tolerance stack-ups and mechanical fit analyses.
Familiarity with structured engineering change management processes.
Experience producing clear, professional technical documentation.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Proficiency with standard business tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience supporting custom machinery, automation equipment, or industrial systems.
Exposure to regulated manufacturing environments or quality management systems.
Hands-on experience supporting equipment build, assembly, or field installation.
Familiarity with pneumatic or electromechanical systems.
Ability to travel domestically on a limited basis.
Authorization to work in the United States.
Ability to obtain and maintain required background clearance, if applicable.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $65.00/hr.
