This is a multi-level posting. The job classification will be Student Worker Paraprofessional or Student Worker Paraprofessional Senior based on education. At least two years of post-secondary education is required to qualify at the Student Worker Paraprofessional Senior classification. There is only one position to be filled.
This job posting will be used to fill a student worker position in Civil Engineering. If the position is not filled by a Civil Engineering Student, it may be filled by a student in another interest area. Positions will assist and provide support to the Traffic Engineering unit by performing pre-engineering work as assigned by the supervisor. The position will work out of the Crookston headquarters and will work 40 hours per week. Flexibility for the length of season will be considered by MnDOT, but late May/June - August 21, 2026 is an approximate term for this summer work opportunity. The hours of employment are 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday. (Some flexibility with start time but will be an 8 hour day.)
This position will collect traffic data and obtain crash statistics using various computer software and review technical reports to aid in scoping activities for projects. They will also collect and process field data for traffic studies and the traffic count program. The student will interact with other MnDOT personnel to obtain and share information and may accompany traffic engineers to various meetings and safety reviews.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must be enrolled in a college, university, trade, or technical school in the next three (3) months with at least a 2.0 GPA.
Students must be enrolled in six (6) semester or nine (9) quarter credits; or for a non-credit granting institution, two (2) or more classes per semester/quarter.

Current, valid Class D driver's license.
Ability to understand technical documents and follow instructions.

At least two years of post-secondary education is required to qualify at the Student Worker Paraprofessional Senior classification.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates who are currently enrolled as full-time students in Civil Engineering, Civil Technology, Construction Management, Land Surveying or related fields of study.
Preference will be given to candidates who have knowledge and application of advanced mathematics including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
