JOB DESCRIPTION
The Data Scientist will support the Data Stewardship Program in Colorado Springs, CO .
MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT
As a Data Scientist , you will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining data pipelines that meet highly impactful mission requirements. You will apply your advanced expertise in data science and analytics to analyze and interpret complex structured and unstructured datasets, enabling actionable insights and data-informed decision-making. Additionally, you will lead the planning, execution, and management of machine learning projects, leveraging cloud-native platforms and advanced analytics solutions to drive mission success. Your work will directly contribute to solving some of the most challenging problems in the field, empowering the organization with innovative and data-driven solutions.
JOB DUTIES (INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO)
Design, implement, and automate processes to manipulate, analyze, and model structured and unstructured data.
Research, develop, and implement predictive and prescriptive modeling, natural language processing (NLP), robotic process automation (RPA), and other advanced statistical methods.
Coordinate research and analysis activities utilizing diverse data sources (structured and unstructured).
Collaborate with Data Engineers to create robust data environments and enable comprehensive analytics.
Perform large-scale data processing using tools like Apache Spark or Hadoop.
Build and refine statistical models, and create data visualizations using tools like Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, or R Shiny.
Conduct programming using R, Python (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas), or similar analytical programming languages.
Develop and implement machine learning and data engineering solutions using cloud-based platforms such as Databricks, IBM Cloud Pak, Cloudera, or Snowflake.
Communicate complex data-driven insights effectively to non-technical stakeholders through digital storytelling.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Strong proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, R, Java, C++).
Experience with distributed SQL programming and relational/non-relational database queries.
Hands-on experience in applying data science methods and machine learning techniques to real-world problems.
Expertise in data visualization tools such as Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, or R Shiny.
Familiarity with advanced data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark or Hadoop.
Experience with cloud-based data management and ML platforms like Databricks, IBM Cloud Pak, or Snowflake.
Background in mathematical modeling, statistics, and advanced analytics.
Proven ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences through presentations or visual media.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED
Clearance: Current Interim Secret clearance (required within 30 days of hire). Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year of related experience in a data science, analytics, or comparable role.
Education: Bachelor's degree in a STEM field such as Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or Computer Science (Master's degree preferred).
Certifications: None explicitly required, but relevant industry certifications are a plus (e.g., AWS Certified Machine Learning Specialist, Certified Analytics Professional (CAP), etc.).
Role requirements : 5 days on site.

The likely salary range for this position is $106,250 - $143,750. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
