Summary Position serves as File Scanning Specialist in the Scanning/Medical Record File Unit of Health Information Management Section within Patient Administration Service (PAS) for the Edward Hines Jr VA Hospital system. Performs duties related to the receipt, intake, indexing, scanning, destruction and transfer of health and administrative information. Responsibilities Major duties include, but are not limited to: Use computer and scanner to scan medical and administrative documents into patient's records Verify scanned images are clear, legible, indexed correctly and to the correct record/patient Use knowledge of records disposition by identifying records to be retired and prepare records for staging Operate a personal computer, or computer terminal to provide work accurately and efficiently Prioritize documents to be scanned and the urgency of each request based on guidelines Utilize communication skills to coordinate efforts such as record transfers, follow up requests, and interact with Veterans and family members and other staff, etc. Performs other related duties as assigned.
