What you'll do...
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Member desk organization within Sam's Technology who has deep expertise in frontend technologies and strong full-stack proficiency to drive the design and development of scalable, high-performance applications. In this role, you will lead technical direction, mentor engineers, and ensure best practices in building intuitive, accessible, and responsive user interfaces while contributing to backend systems when needed. You will partner closely with product, design, and cross-functional teams to deliver solutions that balance user experience, technical excellence, and business impact.

About Team:
The Sam's Tech Member Desk engineering team is responsible for building and managing applications and services running at the member services desk across all of US Sam's clubs. This includes apps to handle membership signups/renewals/upgrades, process returns and purchase items at the member services desk.
What you'll do:
Enabling self-serve returns to improve convenience and reduce dependency on associates.
Introducing exchange capabilities at the member desk to provide a seamless and flexible experience.
Supporting offline returns to ensure business continuity and accessibility in all environments.
Beyond leading these initiatives, this role will bring strategic and technical depth that is vital for the long-term success of the team , which will be manifested in terms of: Architectural stewardship: Ensuring the scalability, reliability, and security of our returns platform.
Codebase ownership: Driving modernization, maintaining high code quality, and setting best practices across the team.
Technical mentorship: Guiding mid-level and junior engineers, accelerating their growth and amplifying team productivity.
Innovation and thought leadership: Experimenting with and advocating for GenAI and emerging technologies to unlock new efficiencies and member experiences.
Cross-functional collaboration: Partnering with product, design, and operations to align technical solutions with business goals.
What you'll bring:
Lead architecture, design, and implementation of complex frontend features and frameworks.
Collaborate across teams to ensure seamless integration of frontend and backend systems.
Drive technical strategy, set coding standards, and enforce best practices in performance, security, and maintainability.
Champion the use of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., code generation, testing automation, intelligent monitoring) to improve team velocity.
Identify opportunities to embed AI-driven features into products and guide technical decisions for scalable implementation.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, fostering growth, innovation, and AI fluency.
Stay ahead of emerging frontend, full-stack, and AI technologies to continuously evolve the stack.
Proven experience in modern frontend frameworks (React, React Native)
Strong knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript, CSS, and responsive design principles.
Solid understanding of backend technologies (Node.js, APIs, databases, cloud platforms).
Familiarity with AI/ML tools, frameworks, or platforms and proven ability to apply them in engineering workflows.
Demonstrated ability to design scalable architectures and solve complex engineering challenges.
Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a track record of influencing technical direction and driving AI adoption within teams.

The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $180,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location).
