Senior Quality Engineer
Position Summary:
Scot Forge is looking for a Senior Quality Engineer that will support the implementation and maintenance of Scot Forge Quality Management System. Additionally, this individual will provide support for our Supplier Quality program and Internal Auditing program. This individual will also provide leadership and support for Scot Forge Corrective Action program. This role will have both customer and supply facing activities in support of problem solving and auditing.

Essential Position Responsibilities:
Internal Auditing: P articipate in internal audits and closing meetings, communicate nonconformities to appropriate parties, and maintain all Audit records. Review all CAR audits. Update log of results from CAR audits, report results from CAR audits to Accountable leader. Step 8 of the CAR process. Train and mentor all new and existing auditors.
CAR Administrative Support : Primary Individual conducting step 6, "Verification", Primary Individual conducting step 7, "Measuring Effectiveness", Primary Individual conducting step 8, "Sustainability" including auditor assignments and maintenance of sustainability audits. SQE will also Facilitate CARs, and coach people in the use of Structured Problem solving.
Lead Auditor - support SF auditing program by performing duties of lead auditor for both internal and supplier audits
Customer Communication . Represent Scot Forge as we effectively communicate with customers and 3rd party auditors regarding specification requirements, manufacturing and process capabilities, and questions / complaints related to quality systems, product, processes, or documentation.
Roll out customer requirements . Communicate and provide training to personnel regarding execution of procedures and interpretation of specifications/drawings as they apply to the technical manufacturing, test and inspection requirements invoked by customers.
External Auditor Host / witness. Support 2nd and 3rd party external audits and customer witnesses and their review of Scot Forge Quality System processes, providing supporting information and activities to facilitate a successful audit / witness.
Create deviations - Create market-specific customer facing deviations including corresponding corrective actions when required.
Participate and lead Structured Problem-solving Events. Ability to lead and / or work with a cross functional team to identify root cause and develop and implement positive corrective action(s) to correct identified problem(s)
Chief Inspector Support and CMM Support. Work closely with the chief inspector to enhance metrology systems including
CMM, laser, Romer technology including the various 3D software packages required to validate the results of these inspection methods.
Provide leadership and training in standard metrology systems including common shop measurement devices and gages.
Support final inspection in the use and interpretation of different measurement equipment and techniques
Ensure Scot Forge is current with 3D Inspection technology including inspection equipment supplier relationships.
Metrics. Provide leadership activities in developing and maintaining company-wide quality metrics including Daily Collaboration Meetings.
Supply Chain. Support purchasing and supply chain partners in the creation, standardization, and evaluation of inspection plans. Work with partners in the evaluation and disposition of non-conformances.
Job related improvements. Utilize metrics to evaluate and eliminate waste for implemented processes, including efficiency, accuracy, and quality improvements. Support and participate 6's / Lean activities.
Oversight of Scot Forge Calibration Program . Calibration / Equipment Validation / Measurement System Improvement. Coach department responsible parties on:
Follow up on weekly report with calibration due dates
Maintain accuracy of all applicable records
Coordinate calibration events - Metrology @type equipment
Review of all certifications by Quality
Identify tolerance ranges for all equipment
Evaluate impact of product produced when measured with un-calibrated MT&E.
Educate gage owners about preservation of calibration records - either (electronically stored or fire cabinets)
Establish / coordinate procedures for all calibration done in house
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
BS in engineering or metallurgy or equivalent
Minimum 5 years' experience in Quality manufacturing and in manufacturing environment
Significant experience in Structured Problem Solving (8D)
Good written and oral communication skills
Ability to Effectively Train Others
Excellent Leadership Skills
Extensive experience in process control Specifically in FMEA and Control Plans
Six Sigma Black Belt - Multiple projects completed.
Experience in writing procedures
Good Understanding of lean tools
Previous experience in the metals industry and/or metallurgy knowledge.
Qualified Lead auditor in systems such as ISO 9001:2008, AS9100.
Desired Skills:
American Society of Quality Certification Preferred

Scot Forge requires all employees to work 100% onsite.
This position is primarily located in our Spring Grove, IL facility with occasional travel to plants in other locations as required (Franklin Park, IL and Clinton, WI).

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Position requires a mixture of working in office and occasionally working in production areas while forklifts, overhead cranes and related equipment are in use. On occasion while performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to heat and cold weather conditions as well as wet and/or humid conditions. Production environment may expose individual to excessive loud noise. When in the area of production, appropriate PPE is mandatory.
