Job Title Structural Design Engineer I

SUMMARY

Assist with planning, performing design, and supporting installation and commissioning of

all components and equipment associated with electrical transmission facilities. Assist in

conducting line routing, structure design and selection, conductor evaluation, and structure

spotting.

Essential Responsibilities

Transmission Line and Substation Structural Design

Assist in conducting line routing, structure design and selection, conductor evaluation, and

structure spotting.

Assist with preparing and obtaining permits for transmission line and substation projects.

Assist with the preparation of construction drawings, bills-of-materials, and construction

contract documents while being mindful of budget estimates.

Assist with conducting failure investigations, reviewing projects that impact existing or

planned transmission facilities, and implementing new technologies.

Meet, as needed, with and provide technical support to customers and Sunflower

Members.

Assist in planning, performing design, and supporting installation and commissioning of all

components and equipment associated with electrical transmission facilities.

Assist with developing and reviewing engineering documents such as calculations,

specifications, and procedures.

Perform on-site fieldwork as required.

Standards

Ensure compliance with applicable American National Standards Institute/Institute of

Electrical and Electronic Engineering (ANSI/IEEE), North American Electric Reliability

Corporation (NERC) Reliability, National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), American Society

for Testing and Materials (ATSM), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) standards.

Assist or lead development and maintenance of Sunflower standards.

Assist with various projects through completion.

responsibility.

Perform other tasks as assigned or required to support Sunflowers mission and

operations.

Qualifications

Certifications and Licenses

Successful completion of Fundamental Engineering Exam is preferred.

Education and Experience

Bachelor degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET accredited institution.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Able to develop and maintain ability to prepare budgets and estimates as well as maintain

financial tracking.

Sound organizational and time management skills.

Able to develop and maintain current knowledge base of design techniques and equipment

requirements and the proper application in design, operation, and maintenance of

transmission and distribution lines and substations.
