The Transition Coordinator will serve as a dedicated support professional for adult learners aged 25-55 enrolled through the New York State Opportunity Promise (NYSOP) program. This position is central to guiding students through the college entry process, onboarding, and academic adjustment to promote retention and persistence toward degree completion. The coordinator will ensure these students experience a smooth transition into higher education by providing high-touch support and connecting them with the appropriate campus and community resources.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as the primary point of contact for NYSOP participants from the point of admission through the first year of enrollment.
Coordinate pre-enrollment activities including program orientations, initial advisement, financial aid counseling, and prior learning assessment referrals.
Develop and implement individualized onboarding plans in collaboration with admissions, financial aid, advisement, and academic departments.
Identify and address barriers to enrollment and persistence for adult learners (e.g., child care, transportation, scheduling, technology).
Monitor student progress through the first 24 credits, offering timely interventions and referrals to academic, wellness, and support services.
Collaborate with Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, Career Development, and Academic Affairs to create seamless transition pathways.
Facilitate adult learner workshops focused on college readiness, time management, financial literacy, and career planning.
Track and report program engagement, milestones, and outcomes to ensure compliance with NYSOP grant objectives.
Support the coordination of cohort engagement activities to build peer connections and a sense of belonging among NYSOP students.
Assist with marketing, recruitment, and communication efforts tailored to adult learners and returning students.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in education, counseling, higher education, or related field strongly preferred.
At least two (2) years of experience working with non-traditional, adult, or underrepresented college student populations.
Demonstrated understanding of the challenges faced by adult learners in higher education.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student-centered service.
Familiarity with CUNY systems such as CUNYfirst, DegreeWorks, Navigate, and EAB.
Bilingual abilities in a language commonly spoken by BMCC's adult student population.
Experience designing workshops or trainings for adult learners.
Knowledge of community-based resources, prior learning assessment (PLA), and career pathways for adult students.

Creates and updates content for web pages, bulletins, and other media to ensure effective communications to students and campus community
May supervise clerical and/or part-time staff and coordinate work schedules
Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary range is $74,754 - $79,784; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
