What You Will Do
Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking an experienced leader to fill the role as the WFO Nuclear Operations Manager. Reporting to the Weapons Facility Operations Director (WFO FOD), this role is responsible for overseeing the Weapons Engineering Tritium Facility (WETF). national security This position is directly responsible for managing a $30M operations and maintenance budget while overseeing an infrastructure project execution portfolio exceeding $10M annually. The WFO Nuclear Operations Manager also serves as line management to a robust multidisciplinary staff responsible for maintaining the WETF authorization basis.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated record of promoting teamwork, consensus building, mentoring and motivating peers and subordinates across division lines.
Demonstrated experience with the implementation of Conduct of Operations.
Demonstrated understanding and implementation of work planning and control including hazard identification, hazards analysis, and control implementation applying the hierarchy of controls for a wide range of complex, hazardous activities.
Experience with facility management and infrastructure programs, particularly in the areas of maintenance, construction, and project management.
Experience with the development and implementation of nuclear facility safety basis changes.
Experience with implementing nuclear facility readiness program requirements, including demonstrated success preparing and leading facility and programmatic personnel thru the readiness-related assessments.
Understanding of abnormal event response and reporting, to include facilitating fact findings and learning teams, as well as reviewing root cause analysis and lessons learned.
In depth knowledge of work hazards, safety programs, lock-out/tag-out requirements, and facility policies and procedures.
Excellent oral/written communication skills to include presentations and report writing.
Ability to negotiate with customers and their management, and influence senior-level leaders regarding matters of significance to the organization.
Active Q clearance or DOD equivalent.
Education/Experience :
Position requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 12 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
This position may be subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities. This DOE Order establishes entry-level requirements to ensure employees in the positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
Desired Qualifications:
Understanding of financial processes and requirements for an organization
Demonstrated knowledge of the Laboratory's organizational structure and programs, including conduct of maintenance, conduct of engineering, conduct of operations, quality assurance, and performance assurance systems.
Significant experience identifying and implementing software solutions that improve productivity and/or transparency.
Significant experience in commercial nuclear power or naval nuclear power operations portfolios

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader.
