Job Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to support continuous improvement for all laser and gimbal products. Monitor part and assembly designs from concept through release to ensure design for manufacturing requirements are adhered to. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential, as this role requires high-performance collaboration across multiple departments.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist the Production Manager in daily operations, including process optimization, troubleshooting production challenges, coordinating workflow, and ensuring alignment with production goals and timelines.
Participate in new project engineering design and reviews. Apply manufacturing knowledge (with an understanding of current manufacturing capability) to participate in design change decisions to reduce manufacturing risk.
Work with engineering and production to assist in the building of pre-production systems to ensure a smooth transition to manufacturing.
As required, coordinate, approve and authorize the release of drawings and specifications from engineering to production.
Coordinate, initiate, review, and approve Engineering Change Orders (ECO's). Ensure ECO's meet specification, configuration, and regulatory requirements.
Create, develop, and maintain manufacturing documentation concerning fixtures, testing, maintenance, manufacturing floor layout, process flows and acceptance criteria.
Recommend changes to the process flow to optimize manufacturing yield, performance and efficiency.
Serve as manufacturing point of contact for New Product Introduction (NPI)Monitor procurement and implementation of test fixtures for mechanical and optical sub-assemblies, as required to support Engineering and Manufacturing.
Train production technicians on laser and gimbal production processes.
Troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues to maintain production schedules.
Manage Calibration of production instruments and equipment in partnership with Calibration coordinators.
Manage a Preventive Maintenance program for essential production equipment.
Assist with monitoring supplier performance.
Participate in process improvement projects.
Participate on the material review board to determine the disposition of non-conforming materials.
Collect and analyze production data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Investigate production related failures and provide corrective actions.
Interface with field service and quality to evaluate documented failures and assist in developing corrective actions to improve product reliability.
Provide support for other departments, as required, to ensure manufacturing requirements and production objectives have been met.
Perform other job-related duties as required/assigned.
Job Qualifications:
BS or MS in engineering or other technical discipline.
Exceptional communication skills to maintain clear, effective, and timely communication with internal teams, management, and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and rapid issue resolution.
Complex problem-solving utilizing structured root cause analysis and problem-solving tools.
Ability to collect, review and interpret statistical data and information to evaluate and develop options and implement manufacturing solutions.
Ability to analyze, develop, and propose strategies that will improve manufacturing efficiencies, reduce costs and improve throughput.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and standards.
Demonstrated project & priority planning, multitasking and communication skills.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
3-5 years' work experience in a technical manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated technical knowledge of photonics, opto-electronic devices, and material handling methods.
Knowledge and understanding a wide variety of manufacturing processes.
Demonstrated proficiency in SolidWorks 3D and Product Data Management (PDM) software.
Quality data analysis and reporting, ability to use reporting tools for presentation and discussion.
Demonstrated ability to work to demanding schedules and manage risks inherent in specific product development and production transition requirements.
