Job Summary:
Provides direction and engineering support for complex design and development of technologies, with a strong emphasis on welding, welding technology and fabrications. Role is designed to be an enterprise resource supporting all business units and facilities with the development of welding / joining technology, processes and procedures.
What You Will Do:
Leading technical design, development, and testing for all welding technologies in the Caterpillar enterprise as well as maintaining strong industry and academic connections to understand advancements and trends in welding technology.
Evaluating the efficacy of welding technologies and processes as well as their applicability to Caterpillar applications.
Resolving or coordinating the resolution of complex technical issues.
Education Requirement:
Requires an accredited degree (Bachelor's) in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, or Engineering

Supervises others in advising a range of clients across a myriad of products, technologies, services and solutions in the welding and joining domain.
Identifies and evaluates emerging technologies and advises clients regarding their potential business impacts.
Effectively consults with and conveys technology concepts, business impacts and other advice to senior client levels.
Trains others in developing technology business, channel management and client coaching.
Leverages formal certifications in mastery of multiple areas of technology in demonstrating credibility for client consulting.
Influencing Through Expertise:
Communicates complex ideas and concepts in a clear and concise manner so that others can understand.
Exhibits depth and breadth of knowledge, skill, and experience in the welding and manufacturing fields.
Provides relevant, timely and objective subject matter/process expertise and key insight regarding multiple client business areas and affiliated fields.

Troubleshooting Technical Problems:
Evaluates business impact of failure and the criticality and timing of needed resolution.
Resolves difficult or high-impact equipment and systems problems.
Monitors machine performance and history; addresses excessive maintenance or repair needs.
Coaches others how to resolve integration or communications problems in multi-vendor environment.
Applies specific techniques for isolating a problem and defining resolution approach.
Uses advanced diagnostic techniques and tools for unusual or performance-related problems.
Additional Information
The location for this position is Mossville, IL, with additional locations in Athens, GA; Decatur, IL; and South Milwaukee, WI. Alternate Caterpillar locations will be considered for well qualified candidates.
Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.
This position may require up to 50% travel.

$156,000.00 - $234,000.00
