Position Specific Description
NextEra is seeking a hands-on product leader to join the Transformation Office within the Business Management organization. Business Management owns the P&L for one of the largest renewable asset portfolios in the world and is responsible for ensuring these assets meet their financial commitments through:
Acting as the CEO of the assets
Maximizing revenue and optimizing operational performance
Driving optimal commercial and regulatory outcomes
The Transformation Office is building a portfolio of decision-support products - optimization engines, scenario and lifecycle financial models, and the reporting and governance layer around them - that change how multi-billion-dollar operating and capital decisions are made across the fleet. The strategy and the analytical thinking are in place. What we need now is someone who can land them.
In this role you will be the product owner and delivery spine for that portfolio. You will sit between the business - Business Management, Power Generation (PGD), Operations and Finance - and the technical teams that build, including internal data science and engineering groups and external analytics and consulting partners. You will turn business intent into precise, testable requirements; drive the build through to production; and own the harder half of the job: adoption. Success in this role is not a model that works. Success is a planner, a business manager or an operating committee changing what they actually do because of it.
This is a role for someone who is genuinely bilingual. You will need to be credible enough with data scientists to challenge an objective function, a data assumption or a validation approach, and credible enough with operators and executives to explain in plain business language why the answer is right and what it is worth. You will also be the person who keeps the program honest: clear owners, dates, decisions, dependencies and risks, communicated on a reliable cadence, with early and specific escalation when something starts to drift.
You will operate with a high degree of autonomy in an environment with real ambiguity. You are expected to own the decision framing for your products - not simply take dictation - and to bring a point of view on what should be built, in what order, and why.
Key Responsibilities
Own the end-to-end product lifecycle for assigned decision-support products, from business problem definition through requirements, build, pilot, production release and value realization.
Translate business objectives into technical requirements. Write the user stories, acceptance criteria, data requirements and definitions of done that data scientists and engineers build against, and own the product backlog and its prioritization by business value.
Act as the conduit between the business and the technical teams. Run working sessions with Business Management, PGD, Operations and Finance to elicit real needs, constraints and edge cases, then represent those needs with fidelity to the build teams - and push back in both directions when what is being built will not solve the problem.
Drive execution and accountability across multiple concurrent workstreams. Maintain the integrated plan, milestones, dependencies and risks; run the operating cadence of stand-ups, sprint reviews and steering updates; chase decisions, remove blockers, and escalate early and specifically.
Keep stakeholders informed with concise, executive-ready status, decision logs and readouts, tailored to audiences ranging from field operations to senior leadership.
Own adoption and change management. Design the decision process and workflow the product plugs into, build the training and playbooks, recruit pilot sites and early users, capture and act on feedback, and drive usage to the point where the legacy process can be retired.
Define and track success metrics - adoption, decision quality and cycle time, and realized financial benefit - and maintain a transparent back-cast of forecast versus actual value delivered.
Guard analytical integrity. Ensure what gets built preserves the business logic it was designed around, including the objective, constraints, cost treatment and risk adjustment, and that data quality, controls, cybersecurity, compliance and governance requirements are met.
Manage external analytics and consulting partners on scope, deliverables, quality and timeline, protecting internal ownership and ensuring knowledge transfer back to NextEra.
Coordinate across the Transformation Office portfolio, surfacing overlaps, shared data foundations and sequencing trade-offs so that the individual initiatives add up to one coherent operating model rather than a collection of tools.
Highly Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data or Information Science, Finance, Economics, Business or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus.
6+ years of experience in technical or data product management, product ownership, analytics delivery leadership, technical program management, or a comparable role translating business needs into analytics and software builds.
Demonstrated ownership of at least one analytics, optimization, forecasting or decision-support product taken from concept through production and into real business adoption, with a specific, quantified outcome you can describe in detail.
Technical fluency sufficient to be a true counterpart to data scientists and engineers: comfortable discussing objective functions and constraints, model assumptions and validation, data pipelines and data quality, and the trade-offs among accuracy, speed and usability. SQL or Python literacy and hands-on experience with a modern data platform such as Databricks or Snowflake are a strong plus. You are not expected to build the models.
Excellent requirements craft - user stories, acceptance criteria, process and decision mapping - with the discipline to make ambiguity concrete and testable.
Proven execution and accountability muscle: running multi-workstream plans, driving owners and dates, managing dependencies and risk, and escalating well. Experience with Agile ways of working and tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
Strong business judgment, including enough financial literacy to understand the economics of the decision being supported - revenue at risk, cost, capital and risk-return trade-offs - and to prioritize by value rather than by whoever asked loudest.
Exceptional communication and stakeholder influence skills across very different audiences, from field operations through senior executives, including clear and concise executive written and verbal communication.
A track record of driving adoption and behavior change, not only delivery: pilots, training, playbooks and retiring the legacy way of working.
Experience in an asset-intensive industry - energy, utilities, renewables, aviation, rail, marine, mining, heavy manufacturing or logistics - is a plus.
Familiarity with maintenance planning, scheduling or dispatch optimization, asset performance management, or total cost of ownership concepts is a plus.
Experience working within or alongside a consulting or analytics partner delivery model is a plus.
Experience with financial modeling, scenario analysis or capital allocation frameworks is a plus.
Job Overview
Leaders in this position support the overall P and L management of one or more NextEra generating assets that have achieved commercial operation. This role supports strategic decision-making with respect to such assets, including hedging, operations and maintenance. This role identifies opportunities and analyzes the impact on company financials to maximize P and L profitability.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Manages a team responsible for improving the generating asset's P and L, operations monitoring, development and assessment of value-added ideas to optimize asset performance and increase profitability
Reviews proposed budgets and monthly forecasts, financial analyses, ad hoc reports, and modeling
Ensures compliance with power purchase agreements, land leases, financings and regulatory requirements
Resolves issues across multiple assets and/or states and presents findings and results to all levels of management
Works with teams throughout the company in a manager or coordinator capacity
Maintains close working relationships with partners, customers and stakeholders
Recommends hedging strategies
Negotiates various commercial agreements
Leads or assists with value-added projects such as supporting regional leadership in the development of strategic plans, mergers and acquisitions, project development, asset optimization, restructurings and building relationships with off-takers, landowners, and state and local regulators
Trains and mentors team members
Performs other job-related duties as assigned
