Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Description
The Mechanical Design Engineer designs and develops conveyors and bakery equipment from concept through fabrication, ensuring all layouts, assemblies, and details meet performance, tolerance, and clearance requirements. This role applies strong product knowledge and technical skills to solve application challenges, supports project schedules, and works independently to deliver high-quality engineering designs using SolidWorks and related tools.
Responsibilities
Create conceptual designs, detailed models, assembly drawings, and arrangement drawings required for the fabrication of conveyors and bakery equipment.
Design and detail all engineering drawings in accordance with established company standards and best practices.
Develop detailed equipment layouts to verify machine tolerances, ensure proper clearances, and confirm fit within customer facilities.
Conduct and actively participate in design reviews to evaluate concepts, address issues, and incorporate feedback into final designs.
Maintain project schedules by monitoring progress, coordinating design activities, and resolving technical and design-related problems in a timely manner.
Apply product knowledge and engineering principles to solve application problems and optimize equipment performance and reliability.
Complete assigned design and engineering tasks within the allotted timeframe while working with minimal or no supervision.
Identify required purchased components and materials, and create accurate purchase requisitions to support procurement.
Perform engineering calculations for motor sizing, drive selection, and structural integrity of equipment and supporting structures.
Collaborate with manufacturing and shop-floor personnel to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and aligned with production capabilities.
Support continuous improvement of design standards, methods, and documentation to enhance quality and consistency.
Perform other related engineering and design duties as required by leadership.
Essential Skills
Accredited Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline.
2+ years of relevant mechanical design experience.
Proficiency with SolidWorks for 3D modeling and detailed engineering drawings.
Experience using SolidWorks PDM for data management and revision control.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to perform engineering calculations related to motor sizing and structural integrity.
Demonstrated ability to complete engineering assignments independently and within defined timelines.
Strong attention to detail and adherence to company drawing and design standards.
Effective communication skills to participate in design reviews and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with conveyor design, including component selection and layout, is preferred.
Sheet metal design experience, including fabrication considerations, is preferred.
Familiarity with manufacturing processes and shop-floor practices is beneficial.
Ability and willingness to support continuous improvement of engineering processes and standards.
Work Environment
The role operates in a combined manufacturing and office environment. The Mechanical Design Engineer primarily works at a desk using CAD software and office productivity tools to create and manage designs, while also spending time on the manufacturing floor to observe equipment, support production, and see designs come to life. The environment involves interaction with fabrication and assembly operations, exposure to typical manufacturing conditions, and collaboration with production and engineering teams.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $85000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
