Position Overview
As an Electrical Apprentice, you'll build your career in the electrical trade while working under the direction of an Electrical Superintendent, Journeyman Electrician, or other assigned field leader.
You'll learn to safely install and maintain commercial electrical systems while developing practical knowledge of electrical construction, the National Electrical Code, tools, materials, drawings, and quality workmanship.
Candidates may enter at different experience levels. Electrical Apprentices are expected to learn the trade, follow direction, support production, protect quality, and steadily develop toward Texas Journeyman Electrician licensure.
What You'll Do
Assist Journeyman Electricians and field leadership with commercial and municipal electrical installations
Participate in required pre-task planning, identify hazards before beginning work, follow lockout/tagout and energized-work boundaries, and immediately stop and report work that is unsafe, unclear, or outside your training or authorization.
Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, support, and install electrical conduit under assigned supervision
Assist with installation of EMT, PVC, rigid conduit, boxes, supports, sleeves, penetrations, raceways, and related electrical infrastructure
Pull, feed, identify, label, and organize conductors using approved methods
Assist with installation of devices, fixtures, lighting and controls, panels, feeders, grounding and bonding systems, disconnects, and related commercial electrical systems
Support installation of switchgear, generators, automatic transfer switches, transformers, EV charging equipment, and other distribution equipment
Assist with layout, excavation, installation, and backfill of underground electrical systems, including conduit, duct banks, grounding systems, stub-ups, and equipment foundations.
Safely operate trenchers, mini-excavators, skid steers, and similar construction equipment when trained, authorized, and assigned, while following utility-locate, excavation, and trench-safety requirements.
Report work that differs from approved drawings or instructions, potential added work, conflicting field direction, or unknown site conditions before proceeding when practical.
Learn to read electrical drawings, blueprints, one-lines, risers, panel schedules, specifications, details, and equipment documentation
Safely use measuring devices, hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, threaders, and conduit benders within training and authorization
Check assigned work for quality, completeness, proper installation, labeling, support, alignment, and readiness for Journeyman review
Perform assigned work in accordance with applicable NEC requirements, approved plans, manufacturer requirements, project requirements, and Impower Connection standards
Assist with testing, inspections, startup, commissioning, punch-list, closeout, service, and warranty activities as assigned
Report material shortages, field conflicts, mistakes, access issues, safety concerns, and other problems promptly
Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas while protecting company tools, equipment, materials, installed work, client property, and the work of other trades
Participate in required field, classroom, online, and on-the-job training and track apprenticeship hours and advancement requirements
What We're Looking For
Education
High school diploma or GED preferred
Enrollment in or completion of an electrical apprenticeship, trade school, or related technical program is preferred but not required
Previous electrical or construction experience is helpful but not required for an entry-level candidate
Experience& Skills
Must be at least 18 years of age
Valid Texas Apprentice Electrician License required, or ability to obtain one before performing electrical work
Genuine interest in building a long-term career in the electrical trade
Dependable attendance, punctuality, and readiness to work at the scheduled start time
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Ability to work under supervision and follow the project chain of command
Basic construction math skills, including addition, subtraction, fractions, and measurements
Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure
Ability and willingness to safely learn the use of hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and electrical construction equipment
Ability to obtain and maintain the hand tools required by Impower Connection
Willingness to learn electrical drawings, specifications, one-lines, panel schedules, and installation details
Strong teamwork, reliability, accountability, communication, and problem-solving habits
Willingness to participate in field, classroom, online, and on-the-job training
Valid driver's license
Reliable transportation
Ability and willingness to travel and work out of town as required
Preferred Experience
Previous commercial, municipal, or industrial electrical construction experience
Enrollment in or completion of an electrical apprenticeship, trade school, or related technical program
OSHA 10 certification
Experience installing EMT, PVC, rigid conduit, boxes, supports, or underground raceway systems
Experience pulling conductors and installing devices, lighting, panels, feeders, or grounding systems
Generator and automatic transfer switch systems
Power distribution or switchgear
Transformer installation
EV charging or DC fast-charging installations
Lighting controls
Underground electrical construction, trenching, excavation, or construction-equipment experience.
Service, troubleshooting, testing, or commissioning experience
Work Environment
Full-time, field-based position supporting commercial and municipal electrical projects
Out-of-town travel and remaining away from home may be required based on project assignments
Work takes place indoors and outdoors in typical construction-site conditions, including heat, cold, dust, noise, and changing weather
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and regularly bend, kneel, squat, crawl, climb, reach, and handle tools and materials
Ability to lift, carry, and move tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds
Work may take place from ladders, lifts, platforms, elevated areas, or in cramped and restricted work areas within training and authorization
Overtime, weekends, nights, shutdowns, early starts, or modified schedules may be required based on project conditions
