Position Summary: Hoffman Construction is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Data Scientist to join its Data team! In this entry-level role, the Data Scientist will work with large construction datasets, applying statistical and machine learning techniques to discover hidden trends and patterns. Using diverse structured and unstructured data, the Data Scientist will transform this data into meaningful actionable insights that drive business decisions, for both the corporation and Hoffman's project teams. Results will be communicated using Python visualization tools or Power BI, depending on the audience. The Data Scientist will be comfortable with exploratory data analysis, programming languages such as Python and R, data modeling, ML algorithms, visualization, and reporting. The Data Scientist will also have excellent time management and communication skills, with acute attention to detail and the dedication needed to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. The Data Scientist will be expected to support Hoffman's project teams and relocation may be necessary.

Essential Responsibilities:
Data Science:
Collect, clean, and organize structured and unstructured data from various sources.
Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) to clean/transform data and identify patterns and trends.
Build and evaluate basic predictive models using machine learning algorithms.
Create visualizations and dashboards to communicate insights effectively.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and deliver data-driven solutions.
Document processes, methodologies, and findings for future reference.
Stay updated on emerging data science tools and techniques.
Participate in the creation of semantic models in MS Fabric and Power BI for use in AI efforts.
Project Data Analytics:
Participate in the creation and continuous enhancement of reports and dashboards, using Power BI, Excel, Smartsheet, and other data reporting tools.
Aggregate and analyze data from diverse sources, ensuring comprehensive insights and synthesis by employing innovative data visualization techniques.
Detect inconsistencies and incorrect data, then locate and rectify issues.
Oversee the creation and delivery of weekly and monthly reports to internal and external stakeholders, including executives and client representatives.
Serve as the subject matter expert on data, reporting, and analytics tools, keeping abreast of technological advancements and industry trends.
Educate and guide cross-functional teams on leveraging reporting tools effectively, aligning with project goals.
Foster collaboration across departments to develop data products and tools, defining success metrics and delivering presentations that drive actionable insights and support strategic decision-making.
Apply automation to data collection and reporting processes to ensure accurate and timely data updates.
Qualifications:
Position Related Skills
Proficiency in Python or R; familiarity with SQL.
Practical experience creating end-to-end data science projects including EDA, feature engineering, model building and testing, and reporting results to a variety of audiences.
Experience with data analysis and visualization tools like Pandas, NumPy, Scikit Learn, Matplotlib, Seaborn, or similar.
Understanding of both supervised and unsupervised learning techniques.
Practical experience with machine learning tools and techniques.
Strong foundation in probability, hypothesis testing, and regression analysis.
Proficiency in using Jupyter Notebooks.
Ability to clean, preprocess, and manipulate large datasets.
Experience with data modeling techniques.
Experience using Power BI, Excel, Smartsheet, and other data analytic/reporting tools, with an aptitude for learning new tools.
Proficiency in DAX programming language.
Ability to communicate complex information to a range of data-literate audiences
Ability to solve problems independently and cooperatively with other team members.
Proficient technical writing experience in relevant areas, including queries, reports, and presentations.
Familiarity with Git, MS Fabric, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is a plus.
Previous experience in the construction industry is beneficial.
Familiarity with construction management software, such as Procore, is beneficial.
Professional Experience and Education
Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Information Science/Management, or a related field of study, or equivalent work experience required.
Five (5)+ years of professional data analysis and BI reporting experience, including statistical analysis preferred.

Physical and Mental Requirements:
Standing/Walking/Sitting: Workday is a combination of sitting/walking and standing.
Legs: Must be able to climb stairs - 5% of the day.
Hands/Arms: Constant use of hands/fingers for mouse/keyboard/computer use.
Vision: Visual acuity in near, mid, and far-range vision. Color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, hand/eye coordination.
Hearing: Sufficient to hear conversational levels in person and over the telephone and radio; sufficient to hear alarms on equipment.
Speech: Sufficient to make oneself heard in person, speak in front of groups, and be understood over the telephone and radio.
Lift/Carry: Up to 50lb computer/drawings- minimal.
