TheDepartment of English (https://www.english.txst.edu/) at Texas State University invites applicants for a full-time (nine-month) tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor to begin in Fall 2027 at our San Marcos campus.
The successful candidate will be expected to sustain a significant, ongoing research agenda leading to peer-reviewed publication in the field of technical communication. The candidate will also teach in the M.A. in Technical Communication Program and in our growing undergraduate technical communication offerings. Additional duties include significant participation in, and contributions to the continued development of, graduate and undergraduate programs in technical communication.
The typical teaching load for assistant professors in their first two years is 2/2. In the third year and beyond, the typical teaching load is 3/3 with some opportunities for course load reduction. Course offerings typically include a mixture of face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in technical communication or closely related field, with degree completed at time of appointment.
Strong, ongoing record of productive scholarship, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in technical communication journals and/or book series.
Expertise sufficient to direct master's theses and/or doctoral dissertations in technical communication.
Preferred Qualifications
Industry experience as a technical writer, information architect, UX designer/researcher, content strategist, or related position.
Research and teaching specialties in areas that widen Texas State University's current and proposed graduate program curricula including, but not limited to, digital humanities, emerging technologies, international technical communication, and professional. communication related to the fields of criminal justice, construction science, and engineering
Ability to teach varied curriculum in technical communication, including courses such as editing, science writing, structured authoring, international technical communication, content management, data visualization, UX research with AI, writing with AI, and document design.
Evidence of experience developing and submitting competitive research grant applications, accompanied by an explanation of the impact of awarded funds, if any, on the candidate's research agenda..
Experience teaching in online or hybrid modalities.
