Summary This AIRMAN AND FAMILY READINESS SPECIALIST is located in the Force Support Squadron, Mission Support Group of an Air National Guard Wing and is part of the CA 129 RQW. Responsibilities THIS IS A T5 EXCEPTED SERVICE, INDEFINITE POSITION Indefinite appointment cannot exceed 5 years. Selectee may be non-competitively converted to permanent status if/when funding becomes available or position becomes unencumbered. The primary purpose of the AIRMAN AND FAMILY READINESS SPECIALIST, GS-0301-9, is to serve as the family readiness and support services representative at an ANG Wing and coordinate concurrently with the Force Support Squadron. Commander/Human Resource Officer (Director of Personnel (DP)) at each wing, Joint Force Headquarters - State (JFHQ-ST) Family Program Director, NGB Family Programs Office, and US Air Force/Major Command (MAJCOM) Family Readiness Directors. Identifies Wing family needs and concerns and presents appropriate plans, and recommendations to facilitate family readiness and support decisions. Ensures all recommendations are in accordance with applicable guidelines, policies, and regulations. Provides advice and assistance to the unit leadership in identifying and addressing family issues and demographic trends, which impact mission readiness and retention. Assess customer interactions and documents all service related customer and community activities in AFFIRST. Uses formal and informal needs assessment to ensure long term proactive/reactive programs are available. Identifies service member and family issues that require exploration, development, and resolutions, and determines appropriate methods and resources. Provides advice and assistance to the unit leadership in identifying and addressing family issues and demographic trends, which impact mission readiness and retention. Conducts briefings and training for family members and volunteers. Attends staff meetings as required or at least monthly to report on family readiness and support program status and concerns, as well as special upcoming programs and events. The position resides within the infrastructure and support functions of the state National Guard; the incumbent is not subject to mobilization, nor is the work described part of the military mission; and the incumbent does not perform a key advisory or essential administrative role that is inherently military. In addition, the position must meet one of the following: It does not have a comparable military function; the position is required in full-time (civilian) role when the organization, or similar military position, is mobilized to perform continuing post-mobilization functions; or the position requires a skill or competency that necessitates technical expertise or professional qualifications that cannot be readily found in the military structure of the state military force. May make additional selections within 90 days of eligible(s) issuance. Qualifications AIRMAN AND FAMILY READINESS SPECIALIST, GS-0301-9: Must have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-07 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government. This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector, but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the GS grade indicated. Specialized experience may have been demonstrated by performing duties such as: Experience assisting the Air National Guard Wing leadership in the development and implementation of a family readiness and support program to include Personal and Family Life Education services, Airman and Family Readiness Deployment Support, Personal Financial Readiness services, Employment Assistance, Military Child/Youth Program and Education, Transition Assistance Program - Title 32 and 10 funding, Wounded, Ill, and Injured Warrior/member and or family member, Disaster Preparedness - EFAC/AFPAAS, Relocation Assistance Program, Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP), Community Outreach and Cooperative Interface, Voting Assistance Program, and Educates on Survivor Benefit Plan at the unit level and providing family readiness assistance at the GSUs; Experience providing plans that maximize readiness and support resources for unit family member assistance during day-to-day operations and especially for Aerospace Expeditionary Force (AEF) deployments and full or partial unit mobilizations; Experience attending staff meetings as required or at least monthly to report on family readiness and support program status and concerns, as well as special upcoming programs and events.
