This Software Engineer role sits within a collaborative development team and leads the development of infotainment software with a strong focus on head unit software. The position contributes to building a top-class infotainment platform that supports numerous future vehicle models, emphasizing connected, autonomous, shared, and electrified technologies and a high standard of quality. The engineer supports the full lifecycle of infotainment systems, from requirements capture and supplier coordination to testing, analysis, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
Lead the development of infotainment head unit software as part of a broader infotainment platform used across multiple vehicle models.
Collaborate with selected software integration partners and suppliers to guide the design, integration, and maturation of infotainment software.
Maintain constant communication with suppliers to convey requirements, monitor development status, and coordinate reporting activities such as system verification and software release milestones.
Support hands-on infotainment software testing, including developing unique requirements for system components and conducting vehicle-level testing to ensure product performance.
Perform maturation testing across different component configurations to verify that all system variations operate correctly.
Analyze and interpret test results to predict performance and potential failure modes, and provide necessary product and design data to relevant stakeholders.
Investigate and identify root causes of problems in collaboration with suppliers and internal teams, ensuring timely resolution.
Write clear and concise reports, presentations, and technical documents to record development activities and communicate findings to technical experts and cross-functional teams.
Capture requirements and develop specification documents for infotainment system components, including drafting proposals and issuing formal specifications.
Recognize and define critical functional requirements across hardware, software, and communication interfaces to align infotainment system components with customer needs.
Effectively communicate development schedules and report the status of component functions to various departments and stakeholders within the organization.
Track multiple development and testing activities simultaneously, ensuring that tasks are completed on schedule while maintaining a strong quality mindset.
Research and influence future infotainment system architecture, features, and functions, including exploring efficient development methods and emerging technologies.
Propose, develop, and justify new infotainment functions to meet evolving market requirements and enhance the overall user experience.
Support newer associates in their project management activities with suppliers by sharing knowledge, best practices, and status updates.
Adjust communication methods to effectively convey technical concepts to international colleagues and diverse audiences, demonstrating cultural awareness and adaptability.
Meet development milestones on schedule while maintaining high personal performance standards and attention to detail.
Maintain test schedules and project timelines through self-motivation and basic project management practices.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
Experience and strong interest in software development using languages such as C, C++, and Java.
Experience with embedded software development and programming in embedded C and C/C++.
Familiarity with Android OS in the @context of software or infotainment development.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with a variety of people and job functions.
Proficient computer skills with collaboration tools such as Confluence and SharePoint.
Proficient PC skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other technical software.
Ability to pay close attention to detail and maintain high personal performance standards.
Basic project management skills, including the ability to determine and manage project timelines.
Self-reliance and motivation to maintain test schedules and adhere to development timelines.
Ability to work with international staff and adapt communication methods to effectively transmit technical concepts across diverse cultures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Hands-on experience or strong interest in infotainment systems, head unit software, or automotive software development.
Experience working with software integration partners or suppliers in a technical development environment.
Familiarity with system verification activities and software release processes.
Experience preparing technical documentation, reports, and presentations for technical and non-technical audiences.
Exposure to analyzing test results, predicting performance or failures, and providing design feedback.
Interest in researching future trends in infotainment system architecture, features, and development methodologies.
Ability to propose and justify new functions or features to meet evolving market requirements.
Comfort working on multiple concurrent tasks or projects and prioritizing to meet milestones.
Work Environment
The role operates in an office-based research and development environment with no manufacturing responsibilities. The engineer works primarily with computers, collaboration platforms such as Confluence and SharePoint, and standard productivity tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other technical software. The setting supports close collaboration with cross-functional teams and international colleagues, with a focus on software development, testing, analysis, and documentation for infotainment systems.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $40.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
