Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join a finance team in Yorktown, Virginia. This role is suited for someone who can manage core accounting operations, support accurate financial reporting, and contribute to a disciplined close process. The position also partners with cross-functional teams to strengthen controls, improve reporting quality, and provide meaningful financial insight for business decisions.

Responsibilities:

Lead daily accounting operations across the general ledger, payables, receivables, cash activity, fixed assets, and related financial areas.

Prepare and record a range of journal entries, including accruals, prepayments, depreciation, reclassifications, intercompany activity, and other period-end adjustments.

Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

Support and independently manage assigned portions of the month-end and year-end close to ensure accurate and timely reporting.

Produce financial statements, management reporting packages, and detailed schedules that support internal decision-making and compliance needs.

Review account activity and financial results to identify unusual movements, errors, or emerging issues, and recommend corrective action when needed.

Maintain accurate accounting records in alignment with U.S. GAAP and prepare documentation required for internal and external audit requests.

Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and working capital reviews, including oversight of inventory, receivables, payables, and fixed asset activity.

Assist with process improvement initiatives, internal control enhancements, and accounting system updates, integrations, or data conversion efforts as needed.

Provide guidance to accounting staff, review completed work for accuracy, and collaborate with other departments to address financial and operational questions. Requirements - 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including responsibilities consistent with a Senior Accountant level role.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline is preferred.

Solid knowledge of U.S. GAAP and core accounting practices across financial reporting and close activities.

Hands-on experience with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close procedures, including journal entries and reconciliations.

Demonstrated ability to prepare, analyze, and interpret financial statements and supporting schedules.

Proficiency in general ledger accounting, bank and account reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, and fixed asset accounting.

Strong Excel skills and the ability to work accurately with detailed financial data and reporting requirements.

Effective communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally and support accounting team development.
