Job Title: Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace / Payload Systems)
Job Description
This role focuses on designing and analyzing 3D and 2D mechanical components for satellite payload systems, with a strong emphasis on Siemens NX. The mechanical engineer will develop both proto@type and production-level designs, create high-quality CAD models and drawings, and ensure designs meet stringent aerospace and manufacturing requirements. The position is ideal for an engineer who consistently delivers high-quality work quickly and effectively.
Responsibilities
Design and develop 3D and 2D mechanical components and assemblies for satellite payload systems using Siemens NX, with a focus on both proto@type and production-level designs.
Create detailed CAD models and high-quality production drawings that clearly define geometry, tolerances, materials, finishes, and critical dimensions.
Perform mechanical design analysis, including tolerance stack-up, fit and function checks, and manufacturability assessments for precision components and assemblies.
Apply design-for-manufacturing principles to ensure components are optimized for precision CNC machining and other manufacturing processes.
Design electronics enclosures and packaging, including mechanical stack-ups, to support optical, photonic, RF/waveguide, and electromechanical assemblies.
Incorporate GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) into drawings and models to ensure accurate and repeatable manufacturing and inspection.
Collaborate with manufacturing and fabrication teams to align designs with machining best practices, including CAM-friendly design, surface finish, flatness, and overall manufacturability.
Work with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical designs with electronics and other subsystems in complex payload and satellite systems.
Use tools such as JIRA and Confluence to track work, document designs, manage tasks, and communicate design decisions and changes.
Support the transition of designs from proto@type to production by refining models, drawings, and specifications based on feedback and test results.
Essential Skills
4-5+ years of mechanical design experience in a relevant engineering environment.
3-5+ years of proficiency with Siemens NX for 3D and 2D mechanical design.
Experience using Teamcenter or similar PLM systems to manage CAD data and product structures.
Strong design-for-manufacturing (DFM) experience for precision CNC-machined components.
Understanding of machining best practices, including CAM-friendly design, tolerance stack-up, surface finish, flatness, and manufacturability.
Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality production drawings and detailed CAD models.
Experience designing high-precision hardware such as optical, photonic, or RF/waveguide components.
Experience with electronics packaging or electromechanical assemblies.
Proficiency with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) for detailed mechanical drawings.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter in an aerospace or high-precision engineering environment.
Familiarity with manufacturing processes including CNC machining, EDM, additive manufacturing, and sheet metal fabrication.
Experience with electronics enclosure design and mechanical stack-up for complex assemblies.
Comfort using collaboration and project tracking tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and deliver high-quality designs quickly.
Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams.
Work Environment
This is an onsite role based in Redmond. You will work in a collaborative engineering environment focused on aerospace and satellite payload systems, using Siemens NX and Teamcenter as primary design and data management tools.
