Job Title: Manufacturing Systems Programmer
Job Description
The Manufacturing Systems Programmer maintains, troubleshoots, and enhances the software applications that support production floor operations, traceability systems, and manufacturing data. This role partners closely with production and engineering teams to keep plant systems running efficiently, resolve production issues quickly, and support new product launches. The position combines approximately 60% desk-based development and analysis work with 40% hands-on support on the production floor in a fully onsite manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
Maintain and update production floor software applications to ensure reliable and efficient manufacturing operations.
Develop, enhance, and support Windows and web-based applications used in production and manufacturing systems.
Manage, modify, and optimize SQL database tables and production data to support reporting, traceability, and system performance.
Support new product launches by integrating product and process data into manufacturing systems and ensuring accurate data flow.
Analyze existing systems and processes to identify opportunities to improve system efficiency and production workflows.
Develop applications that communicate with PLC-controlled equipment, focusing on robust and reliable data exchange (no PLC programming required).
Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot production data interfaces using Kepware and other industrial connectivity tools.
Troubleshoot software, traceability, and production system issues, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
Create, update, and maintain system documentation, including technical specifications, user guides, and change management records.
Provide on-call support for critical production system issues and respond promptly to production downtime situations.
Collaborate with production, engineering, and IT stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into effective software solutions.
Perform data analysis on production and manufacturing data to support decision-making, quality initiatives, and process improvements.
Handle multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously while working under time pressure in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Essential Skills
Minimum 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment in a software, IT, or programming role.
Proven experience developing software solutions in a manufacturing setting, including production and traceability systems.
Strong SQL and Microsoft SQL Server skills, including database querying, table management, and performance optimization.
Proficiency in C# for application development and maintenance.
Proficiency in JavaScript or JScript for web and interface development.
Front-end development experience using HTML for web-based applications.
Experience with Windows and web application development in a production or industrial @context.
Strong understanding of database structures, data integration, and database management practices.
Experience with data analysis related to production or manufacturing operations.
Ability to troubleshoot complex software, data, and system issues under time pressure.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with production and engineering teams.
Demonstrated problem-solving skills and experience with troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
Comfort working in a fast-paced environment and responding to urgent production issues and downtime events.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
Experience with Kepware or similar industrial connectivity and data interface tools.
Experience with manufacturing traceability systems or industrial software platforms.
Familiarity with .NET and ASP.NET for web and application development.
Familiarity with PHP or Visual Basic for maintaining or extending existing systems.
Ability to read PLC ladder logic to support troubleshooting and communication with controls engineers.
Experience with production traceability and industrial connectivity solutions.
Exposure to SAS programming or similar data analysis tools.
Background in engineering or programming within industrial or manufacturing environments.
Work Environment
This role is based fully onsite in a manufacturing environment and requires regular presence on the production floor. Approximately 60% of the work involves office-based tasks such as software development, database management, data analysis, and documentation, while about 40% involves direct support of production floor systems and equipment. The position may require some overtime and participation in an on-call rotation to support critical production systems and respond to downtime events. The work environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with multiple priorities and time-sensitive issues, particularly during production interruptions or new product launches. The role involves working with technologies such as SQL Server, C#, JavaScript, HTML, Windows applications, web applications, manufacturing systems, traceability systems, Kepware, and PLC communication interfaces in a hands-on industrial setting.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $100000.00/yr.
