Job Description
This Manufacturing Engineer (EEG) role focuses on installing, maintaining, and repairing manufacturing equipment, machinery, and facility systems in a high-volume automotive environment. You will troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues, perform basic design and simple fabrication, and support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and process performance. Responsibilities
Install, maintain, and repair manufacturing equipment, machinery, and facility systems to ensure reliable and safe operation.
Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues, identify root causes, and implement effective repairs or corrective actions.
Perform basic design, simple fabrication, adjustment, rebuilding, and occasional welding to support equipment modifications and upgrades.
Apply knowledge of electrical power, including proper wire sizing, current, amperage, voltage, AC and DC, to ensure safe and effective installations and repairs.
Apply knowledge of hydraulic power, including cylinders, valves, and proper oil usage, to understand and control force in hydraulic systems.
Apply knowledge of air power, including cylinders, valves, mufflers, and other pneumatic components, to maintain and repair air-driven equipment.
Support PLC-controlled equipment by understanding ladder logic control and machine operation functions to assist with troubleshooting and improvements.
Use knowledge of light curtains and other safety devices to maintain a safe work environment and ensure proper functionality of safety systems.
Repair and replace test cables and recommend suitable substitutes for operational components when needed.
Read and interpret blueprints, engineering sketches, and designs, recognizing details and slight variations in objects and using analytical skills to guide work.
Maintain accurate written records for ordering replacement parts and tracking part quantities to support efficient maintenance activities.
Provide manufacturers' books, drawings, and spare parts information to maintenance teams to support proper ordering and preventive maintenance scheduling.
Regularly inspect and adjust manufacturing equipment based on communication with operators and production supervisors to address performance or quality concerns.
Work with rigging and scaffolding, using ropes, chains, cables, hoists, jacks, and lift trucks to safely move heavy equipment.
Operate powered hand tools and, when applicable, stationary machine tools to perform maintenance, fabrication, and repair tasks.
Use precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and ensure that components fit and function correctly together.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders on scope of work, completion schedules, issues, solutions, and required materials or parts.
Contribute to continuous improvement and process improvement initiatives related to manufacturing equipment and operations.
Perform other duties as required and assigned to support overall manufacturing and engineering objectives.
Essential Skills
Electro-mechanical aptitude with the ability to work across electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Basic knowledge and understanding of electrical power, including proper wire size selection, current, amperage, voltage, AC and DC.
Basic knowledge and understanding of hydraulic power, including cylinders, valves, and oil usage as it relates to applied force.
Basic knowledge and understanding of air power, including cylinders, valves, mufflers, and other pneumatic components.
Understanding of PLC-based machine operation and ladder logic control sufficient to support troubleshooting of automated equipment.
Knowledge of light curtains and other safety devices used to maintain a safe work environment.
Ability to repair and replace test cables used in manufacturing and testing processes.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering sketches, and designs, and to recognize details and minor variations.
Strong analytical skills to understand how components and systems fit and work together.
Ability to keep accurate written records for ordering replacement parts and tracking part quantities.
Ability to regularly inspect and adjust manufacturing equipment based on operational feedback.
Ability to work safely with rigging and scaffolding and to use ropes, chains, cables, hoists, jacks, and lift trucks to move heavy equipment.
Proficiency in operating powered hand tools; ability to operate stationary machine tools is a plus.
Ability to use precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and fit.
Effective verbal and written communication skills for coordinating work scope, schedules, issues, and material needs.
1-3 years of experience as a production engineer, electrical engineer, or mechanical engineer in a manufacturing environment.
Electrical and/or mechanical troubleshooting experience in a high-volume manufacturing setting.
Associate or Bachelor's degree in Electro-Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent education, with at least 1-2 co-op experiences in a manufacturing environment for entry-level candidates.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with PLC programming to support automation and control system enhancements.
Experience with pneumatic systems, including component selection, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
Experience with hydraulic systems, including troubleshooting and optimization of cylinders, valves, and fluid power circuits.
Experience with industrial controls and ladder logic for automated equipment.
Background in manufacturing engineering, including exposure to high-volume manufacturing operations.
Experience with continuous improvement and process improvement initiatives in a production environment.
Strong electro-mechanical aptitude and interest in learning advanced automation technologies.
Willingness to grow within a large organization and take advantage of training and advancement opportunities.
Work Environment
This role is based in a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment, working directly with production equipment and industrial automation systems. You will spend most of your time on the manufacturing floor, interacting with machinery, tools, and production teams in a hands-on capacity. The environment involves operating and supporting industrial control systems, PLC-controlled equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and a variety of powered hand tools and precision measuring instruments. You may work with rigging, scaffolding, hoists, jacks, and lift trucks to move and position heavy equipment. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $40.87/hr.
