Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer
Job Description
This Manufacturing Engineer role focuses on supporting high-technology heating, air-conditioning, and refrigeration manufacturing operations on the assembly and fabrication lines.. You will spend all of your time on the manufacturing floor, quickly troubleshooting and resolving equipment issues to keep production on pace, improve safety and quality, and support continuous improvement in a fast-paced environment. The position offers the opportunity to convert to a permanent role, contribute to meaningful operational improvements, and grow within a reputable, long-term focused organization.
Responsibilities
Work 100% on the manufacturing floor, immediately responding to equipment issues to keep production on schedule and minimize downtime.
Troubleshoot machine malfunctions using a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering principles.
Diagnose and repair issues with electrical wiring systems on industrial equipment.
Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair hydraulic systems on manufacturing equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair pneumatic systems and valves on industrial machinery.
Evaluate equipment malfunctions promptly, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to reduce production disruptions.
Modify equipment as needed to improve safety, quality, productivity, and reliability of manufacturing operations.
Provide hands-on support in the maintenance and repair of production machinery and equipment, including major overhauls when required.
Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electronic systems used in industrial manufacturing environments.
Support and maintain programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and automation systems, assisting with PLC troubleshooting and programming as needed.
Collaborate closely with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure equipment performance meets operational requirements.
Apply manufacturing engineering principles to tooling and fixture design, with a focus on design for manufacturing.
Communicate clearly with peers and leadership regarding equipment status, issues, and recommended improvements.
Perform other related duties as assigned, which may include additional maintenance, operational, or continuous improvement tasks.
Essential Skills
Associate degree in an engineering discipline.
At least 1 year of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer in a manufacturing setting.
At least 1 year of experience troubleshooting and maintaining manufacturing equipment, including pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
Hands-on experience with industrial machinery, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Ability to troubleshoot machine malfunctions using knowledge of manufacturing processes and engineering principles.
Experience supporting or working with automation and control systems, including PLCs and electronic systems in an industrial environment.
Tooling and fixture design experience with an emphasis on design for manufacturing.
Strong communication skills with a positive, professional attitude suited to a manufacturing environment.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure and respond quickly to equipment issues on a busy production floor.
Solid mechanical aptitude and understanding of mechanical engineering concepts as applied to industrial equipment.
Working knowledge of electrical systems in a manufacturing setting.
Demonstrated ability to support continuous improvement in safety, quality, productivity, and equipment reliability.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline such as Mechanical Engineering (BSME), Mechanical Engineering Technology (BSMET), Electrical Engineering (BSEE), or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET).
Experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment.
Exposure to robotics and automated manufacturing systems.
Background in industrial automation and controls.
Experience as a maintenance technician or in a maintenance engineering role supporting production equipment.
Familiarity with continuous improvement practices in manufacturing.
Strong presentation skills and comfort providing briefings at multiple levels of management.
Interest in long-term career growth within a large, reputable manufacturing organization.
Motivation to drive impactful change in a growing operation experiencing increased business demand.
Work Environment
This role is based entirely on the manufacturing floor and is not an office position. You will be on your feet 100% of the time, working closely with production lines, industrial machinery, and automated systems in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. The environment involves hands-on work with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic equipment, including PLCs and automation systems. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.06 - $45.67/hr.
