What You'll Do
As a Design Technician, you'll help develop engineering and construction packages for overhead and underground electrical distribution systems ranging from 4kV to 138kV.
Key responsibilities include:
Design electrical distribution projects supporting transformer upgrades, maintenance programs, inspections, and joint-use initiatives.
Prepare detailed construction work packages and engineering documentation.
Conduct field visits to collect data, assess existing conditions, and support project planning.
Perform engineering calculations related to:
Pole loading and structural analysis
Guying requirements
Conductor sag and tension
Voltage drop and flicker
Ensure designs meet all safety, quality, and engineering standards.
Assist with permitting and regulatory documentation.
Support construction activities through design reviews and post-construction evaluations.
Analyze service interruptions and contribute to root-cause investigations and mitigation plans.
Collaborate with engineers, utility clients, field personnel, and project stakeholders.
Help deliver projects on schedule while identifying opportunities for process improvements.
What We're Looking ForRequired Qualifications
Bachelor's or Associate's degree in:
Electrical Engineering Technology
Civil Engineering Technology
Mechanical Engineering Technology
Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering
Related technical discipline
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Interest in utility engineering, power systems, or infrastructure design.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Willingness to perform both office and field-based work.
Desire to learn, grow, and build a long-term engineering career.
Preferred Qualifications
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
Internship, co-op, research, or coursework related to:
Power systems
Utility engineering
Distribution design
Electrical infrastructure
Experience or familiarity with GIS, CAD, or other engineering design tools.
Understanding of electrical distribution systems and utility operations.
Work Environment
This position is based in Carmel, Indiana, supporting major utility infrastructure projects throughout the region.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.04 - $24.04/hr.
