AEM (Advanced Environmental Monitoring) is the global leader in innovative mission critical weather, wildfire and water monitoring and intelligence solutions. We aim to be the world's essential source for environmental insights - enabling decisive action and positive outcomes for our customers and their constituents. Our family of innovators offers world-class hydrometeorological technologies and services, including sensors, dataloggers, telemetry, and advanced analytics and software. Our technology and services empower the communities and organizations to survive - and thrive - in the face of escalating environmental risks.
AEM is seeking a Senior/Inter. Electronic Designer with deep experience in product development within a manufacturing environment.
This role is responsible for end-to-end ownership of electronic hardware systems, from architecture through production release and lifecycle support. The ideal candidate brings a strong bias toward designing for manufacturability, testability, reliability, and cost efficiency, and has a track record of supporting products through NPI, production ramp, and field performance feedback loops.
This is a hands-on, production-critical role - not just a research-only or proto@type-focused position.
Job Responsibilities:
Product Architecture with Manufacturing in Mind
Lead system architecture with explicit consideration for DFM, DFA, DFT, and lifecycle cost
Evaluate design tradeoffs across performance, cost, yield, and supply chain risk
Define scalable hardware platforms that support production repeatability and field reliability
Hardware Design & Implementation
Design complex multi-layer PCB systems (analog, digital, mixed-signal)
Develop robust power architectures and noise mitigation strategies
Select components with attention to availability, obsolescence risk, and multi-sourcing
Produce complete and production-ready schematics, layouts, and BOMs
Design for Test & Validation
Define and implement test strategies from proto@type through production
Design and release test fixtures and manufacturing test processes
Develop validation plans that ensure traceability between requirements, test coverage, and field performance
NPI & Production Ramp Ownership
Lead hardware through ECO, release, and configuration control processes
Partner with manufacturing teams to ensure smooth NPI transitions
Actively monitor and improve production yield, scrap rates, and rework drivers
Troubleshoot and resolve line-level failures and systemic production issues
Failure Analysis & Continuous Improvement
Lead root cause analysis for production and field failures
Drive corrective actions that improve design robustness and manufacturability
Support legacy product sustainment, including redesign for obsolescence
Use field and production data to inform next-generation design improvements
Cross-Functional Manufacturing Integration
Work closely with manufacturing engineering, quality, supply chain, and test teams
Interface with contract manufacturers and internal production teams
Collaborate with firmware and mechanical engineering to ensure system-level integration
Mentor junior engineers and technicians on production-aware design practices
This job description may not be inclusive of all assigned duties, responsibilities, or aspects of the job described, and may be amended at any time at the sole discretion of the Employer.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (required)
Minimum 5 years of experience designing and releasing electronic hardware in a manufacturing environment
Demonstrated experience supporting products through NPI, production ramp, and sustainment
Production-Oriented Design
Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Assembly (DFA), and Test (DFT)
Experience with high-reliability or ruggedized hardware systems
Understanding of tolerances, variability, and production constraints
Hardware Engineering Depth
Schematic design and PCB layout (multi-layer)
Analog, digital, and mixed-signal systems
Embedded microcontroller-based designs
Power systems (linear and switching)
Advanced troubleshooting and debug at board/system level
Manufacturing & Quality Systems
Experience with ECO, PLM, and document control systems
Familiarity with IPC standards (IPC-A-610, J-STD-001)
Production test development and validation
Yield analysis, failure modes, and corrective action processes
Compliance & Reliability
FCC/CE/IC compliance and regulatory testing
RoHS and component compliance tracking
Environmental and reliability testing (thermal, vibration, ingress, etc.)
Data-Driven Problem Solving
Ability to analyze production and field data to identify systemic issues
Strong statistical and analytical thinking applied to yield and reliability
Preferred Experience:
Experience with industrial IoT, environmental monitoring, or remote sensing systems
Familiarity with EMC/EMI mitigation in production environments
Experience working with contract manufacturers (CEMs)
Exposure to automated test systems or scripting (Python, LabVIEW, etc.)
Prior experience mentoring or leading technical teams
