Project Overview:
The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is fueling unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response to this market trend, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team have signed an early works contract to build one of the largest gas fired power generation facilities in the U.S.
This project is of significant scale and complexity, and our team is helping the customer progress early-stage development, that would lead to the start of full EPC delivery this year.
The candidate will locate on a long-term assignment to Cheynne, Wyoming. This position is contingent upon project award.
Job Summary:
The Industrial Hygiene (IH) Lead develops and helps execute the industrial/occupational hygiene component of an Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) Program. This involves administrative and field tasks per established industry practices, procedures, and regulatory and Bechtel requirements. The position requires practical application of industrial hygiene disciplines for managing safety and health aspects of a project or facility. The position reports to the Deputy ESH Manager and Project ES&H Manager. #LI-VB1
Major Responsibilities:
Develops and manages industrial hygiene support and services on a large-scale or complex project, inclusive of technical and administrative aspects, compliance activities, and industrial hygiene or health physicist personnel.
Assures that industrial hygiene requirements are integrated in planning documents, design criteria, construction and operational plans, schedules, training programs, and subcontract documents.
Provides technical support to Engineering, Construction, Commissioning and Startup, Operations, Legal, Contracts, Procurement, and other project functions regarding ES&H program execution.
Works with other functional leads (e.g., engineering, construction, commissioning and startup, subcontracts, procurement) to assist them with industrial hygiene requirements and activities.
Researches industrial hygiene issues to support ES&H program execution.
Performs risks assessments, provides technical guidance on mitigation measures and controls, and prepares technical reports.
Provides industrial hygiene support in compliance with Bechtel standards and procedures, ES&H Management System, and contract and regulatory requirements.
Emphasizes and uses risk assessment and Bechtel's ES&H Management System to help achieve continual improvement.
Participates in emergency preparedness planning, and investigation and resolution of incidents related to industrial hygiene.
Builds working relationships with ES&H stakeholders and addresses their issues.
Participates in meetings with customers, regulatory personnel, the public, and contractors/subcontractors regarding industrial hygiene issues and requirements.
Tracks, evaluates, and reports ES&H performance and compliance related to industrial hygiene throughout the project duration, as required.
Serves as subcontract technical representative for specialized studies and support services involving subcontracted industrial hygiene services.
Coordinates with the Project ES&H Manager, and global business unit (GBU) ES&H Manager, regarding significant industrial hygiene issues.
Supervises and helps recruit project-assigned industrial hygiene personnel.
Provides technical support and assistance to construction supervision and subcontractors in planning and executing field activities.
Conducts surveys, assessments, inspections, sampling, and monitoring of project activities to monitor ES&H compliance with contractual commitments, laws and regulations, and Bechtel requirements.
Facilitates support for ES&H team members, inclusive of all ES&H disciplines.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) related to industrial hygiene and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Ability to research and comprehend organizational and regulatory requirements.
Excellent oral and written communication skills for interfacing with diverse stakeholders, and excellent technical writing and data-handling skills.
Computer skills for preparing presentations, data management, and report preparation.
Analytical skills related to industrial hygiene sampling and monitoring.
Adaptable and able to work outdoors in a field environment under various weather conditions.
Ability to support multiple work shifts, as needed, and a wide range of tasks.
Able to integrate environmental, safety, and health factors for program execution.
Licensing through appropriate regulatory authorities, where required.
Progressive work experience including supervisory experience in industrial hygiene.
Experience with ES&H Management Systems.
