This role is primarily field-based, with the majority of time spent on active project sites overseeing and performing geotechnical drilling and subsurface exploration activities. You will oversee subcontractor drilling crews to observe and document soil, groundwater, and rock conditions, perform and document field testing, and ensure that field activities are executed safely and in accordance with project requirements. You will also collaborate with geotechnical engineers, civil engineers, and design teams to translate field observations into clear, concise subsurface data that supports analyses and project delivery.

The position requires an individual who is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in variable field conditions while communicating effectively with drillers, contractors, and engineering staff. A background in geology or geotechnical/civil engineering, the ability to perform physically demanding field work, and a strong interest in subsurface investigations and drilling oversight are essential for success in this role.

Maintain accurate and complete field documentation, including detailed records of sample locations, depths, subsurface conditions, and other relevant field observations.
Collect and describe soil and rock samples from explorations by describing soil lithology, classification, sample depths, and drilling observations to create accurate boring logs. Document groundwater conditions and in-situ measurements in the field logs, ensuring all subsurface data are properly recorded
Perform infiltration testing following Stormwater Best Management Practices Manual of various states and entities
Excellent communication skills to provide timely updates on field activities, site conditions, and data collection progress to geotechnical engineers and project managers
Able to create and implement project Health and Safety Plans that comply with applicable safety procedures, regulations, and project-specific requirements while maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment
Travel to work sites using a company vehicle. This position requires travel 90% of the time, including extended stays
Coordinate geotechnical site investigations, utility clearance, and drilling programs
Ability to follow company quality assurance procedures
Operate and maintain company vehicles according to company policy
